I have babied my xbox 360 from day one. Held out to get the falcon mother board, couldnt wait for jasper I knew of the heat problems before i bought it....but the graphics in HD and game selection drew me in. I've kept it well ventilated, dust free as much as humanly possible, even small house fan rigged on while i played everytime, but only after 13 months of buying it.Playing UFC ranked match... BAM!!! Pink lines on my screen, i freaked out and turned my **** off, wait couple sec, ??? turned back on... 1 red ring and
E74 error.. It was on maybe 30mins tops! w/small h fan.. this sucks
The new RROD. General video failure. Caused by bad solder on the graphics card(I think). Mine went like yours, only I was on halo, and mine has intense green/blues in any darker part of the picture. My new one has the same thing, but no e74, yet :/
crazy sorry guys for write'n like 5 threads..my bad..but yeah the lines i got were intense pinkish red vertical lines..later on, when i turn my box on without the hdmi cable or even standard cable no 1 red light, as soon as i plugged either one in 1 red light?? so i think mine was the scaling chip
Nah, its a love/hate relationship.
And with the video, I think it varies from game to game. An odd thing I've noticed is that even though I can barely make it 10 minutes into a Halo game, I've watch hours of dvd and netflix movie without problem. I can't seem to figure why that would be, but its quite annoying.
my friend's xbox just got e74 out of the blue. if there were any warning signs he was not much aware of it. he did some makeshift troubleshooting before sending it to microsoft:
1. Turn off the console, disconnect all the cables, and then reconnect all the cables. Turn the console back on.
2. Turn off the console, and then disconnect any accessories that are connected. For example disconnect any Xbox 360 controllers, Xbox 360 Memory Units, and the Xbox 360 Hard Drive. With the accessories disconnected, restart the console to see whether the problem continues to occur.
This can help determine whether the console or an accessory is experiencing the problem. - it is not the AV cables or even the port where we connect it, it is one of the hardware failure and if not able to solved this by following the troubleshooting steps provided then we just hoped that your console will have the extended warranty to send this console for repair.
Well, I bought another AV cable, and no such luck. I've tried plugging and un plugging but it doesn't seem to affect it. After 3-4 restarts I can usually expect it to hold up at least until I get past the loading screen. Once there I can watch a dvd or some netflix without problem, but the in-game issues still can and very often will happen. =/
I still have to call microsoft, but I think they'll take it back.

I had my Elite for about a year maybe a bit more and always kept it well ventilated but usually had it standing. I was playing COD4 on my 9th prestige 55 fixing to go 10th when green lines went everywhere. I ignored it at first thinking it was my TV but after it got so bad I couldn't see I shut everything off. When I started it back I got one red light and E74.
