Default Warranty

I've got myself a partially broken xbox360 with screen glitching that renders it unusable, however I've got a green light, no errors yet. It seems its the console, so I need to get a new one. I bought it off of ebay, and its my second (the seller replaced my first broken one :/) so I'm not sure if it was new or refurbished. The mfr date on the back is dec 08. Questions: Will Microsoft take it back now, or does it need a full fledged error? Should I induce an error? Does microsoft give you a new one, or try to just fix the broken one?
How long does the process take? So many questions..

call microsoft and ask, i think they'll fix it no problems. if they don't when wrap it in a towel and force it to get red rings and they'll fix it for sure

Microsoft does not give you a new one, but instead try to fix the old one. They do an alright job I guess.. not to discourage you but my old one got he RRoD a total of 4 times before I finally ran out of warranty and had to buy a new one.

And the process should take anywhere from 3-6 weeks. I heard of people getting back in 2 weeks.. but they usually say 6-8 weeks or something like that.. Usually never takes that long though.

And inducing it is completely up to you.. if it's bothering you and/or unable to play casually on, then I guess man, go for it and do what PJ said.. that would give you RRoD for sure.. but yeah just call and ask, they'll let you know what's up.

So is there a limit to how many times you can send it back? Or is it as long as there's red rings, there's warranty?
as for the issue itself, it renders my video unusable, one of these days I'll try and video tape it, its hard to explain. But the console doesn't seem to see an issue.

Hmm, if the video goes out, Call Microsoft up and ask "wtf?" Sounds like a hardware problem for sure, but all 360's have a certain warranty, I don't know how long it is. probably like a few months to maybe a year. So they might be punk bitches and not want to do anything about it. If that's the case just induce the RRoD and they'll fix it.

The exception to that rule is your warranty is extended 3 years from the original purchase date(or manufacturers date w/e) if and only if it has the 3 red rings/RRoD. So there's no limit to how many times you can send it in for repair during those 3 extended years of coverage. I had my old Xbox360 since launch. So when it got the last RRoD last year it wasn't covered anymore. So I ended up buying a new one that runs like a champ at the moment.

so if I have a system made in dec 08, that's about.. 8 months give or take. I think MS should cover it, and if not, I'll consider baking up some toasted motherboard for that 3 year warranty..

For sure dude, just call them up and find out.. Be sure to post back here and let me know what's up. I'm curious on what they will do.. I'm pretty sure if you explain it to them, and go through their dumb questions; They'll cover it, but I'm not sure.

yeah, they can be pretty loose on the warranty. I just wish they'd use some common sense, wouldn't one well made console be less expensive as 2+ crap ones? Unless they know something we don't...
