Default What's wrong with these people?

I was in Wal-mart today and saw a "Xbox 360 Launch" issue of EG magazine, so I went ahead and bought it. As I kept reading their 360 preview, I kept asking myself what's wrong with these people.

They are saying the graphics for the 360 aren't as "wowing" as you would expect. I don't know what they're smoking, but I need some. The in-game videos and screenshots I've seen are amazing. The graphics are better than any PC game I've seen thus far. (and I'm a big PC gamer)

I also found them dogging on the hard drive option for the 360. The article I read said that us fans who bought the 360 on launch day will want the premium package with all the bells and whistles. They say that the "christmas moms" will see the lower priced package, and before long more people will have 360's without hard drives, and developers will start omitting the extra benefits the hard drive offers. BS. If that does happen by chance, the extra features having the hard drive will offer will make people buy one at some point if they don't go with the premium package.

Last of all, they question whether the 360 is "future proof". They mention Gigabit ethernet on the PS3, which they fail to realize that Gigabit Ethernet doesn't mean a hill of beans when very few people have gigabit ethernet networks, and that broadband right now doesn't even break the 10Mb mark. Then they go on to Blu-ray, saying it hold 3 times more than a DVD. Big whoop... Developers aren't going to use that kind of space on the media in this generation of consoles. Finally, I guess the PS3 is going to incorporate 1080p HDTV support. Well, seeing as how VERY few people own HDTV's, and that 1080p is so new, well lets see... 1080p for the PS3 will work for maybe .5% of PS3 owners.

I realized it too late... by the time I got done typing the majority of this, I saw the answer to my question at the bottom of the page... "Electronic Gaming Monthly * http://www.1up.com" That explains everything I think.

I've read this article and I think you're being a bit too harsh on EGM. They were just trying to look at both sides of the issue, and the overall tone of the article was definitely FOR the 360, and not against it. They didn't flat out say they thought developers would start to omitt content. They were reporting what was abuzz on message boards, and they got comments from an Oblivion developer.

Perhaps I missed that part. I will agree that the article was pro 360 for the most part. However, their "other side" of the argument was baseless and preposterous.

yeah I got that magazine from my roommate since I saw it came in the mail. I admit it was kinda testy but overall they didn't seem to dog it much. They seemed to try and say "if your looking for this out the door dont be disapointed and give it time" They gave 5 good reasons to get it on launch day and 5 reasons to wait. Both made sense to me for people that might be boarderline. But out of the 5 to get it I believe one was for graphics, then at the same time one was for graphics on the wait one lol. Basically just saying what we all know that the 1st gen to come out wont be THAT much better than what we have now. Which isn't totally true since a lot of the games now look stellar compared to anything now. But they are right in that games will only get better. I didn't really get an anti xbox360 vibe while I read it. So dont take their article too personally

Well maybe that magazine doesn't realize that they're shipping 90% of the consoles as premiums.

The $299 price is just to draw people into stores, where BAM! they get the $399 version droppen on 'em.

Exactly. When people realize that they get a lot more with the premium package, they will most likely go with it. The people I know would rather spend more money for a better value than to spend less money for less value.

I have to dissagree with the Mums buying the cheaper option, when I went to pre order mine my mum immediatley wanted me to buy the Premium package so I am not missing out on anything, the last thing parents want is to buy some thing of a lot of money and it dissapoint the kids so most will opt for the Premium.

I really don't get it. why do people set their standards so high?? What do they expect graphics as real as our lives??? I'm impressed by this next gen of gaming. The graphics are spectacular to me, but I've read on IGN boards, and some online articles that people want more. If you don't like the Xbox 360 then don't buy it. Sometimes I think people are too hard on gaming and expect god-like graphics, gameplay, etc. I wish people would be glad for what they had insead of wanting more. EGM isn't that good IMO.

I think for some reaon people want to see a BIG jump in visuals like we saw with the move from the SNES to the N64. The thing is, the visuals are increasing, but in different ways. The vividness of colors, the tiny details, and the fluid and more realistic motions for example. Even with that said, I personally can see a BIG difference between the 180 and the 360.

I do too. The art and colors are nice in all the games (PDZ, Oblivion, Condemned, CoD2, NFS, Kameo, etc) People always look to not see cartoony art style. They just want real looking games. I think the 360 is a Big leap in graphics, physics, and maybe A.I. People act like the next gen systems (not just the 360) will probally not be a "next gen" leap.

did anyone else get the launch guide?

in there, read up on pdz. it says that in multiplayer there's camo that you can pick up. but you have to be careful, because if someone throws a grenade near you, the dust from the explosion will give away your position.

now that's revolutionary!

these graphics have the wow! factor, even moreso than i personally expected.
