Take as an example the BallRoom Demo. If you played Final Fantasy VIII you'll know what I'm talking about. The PS2 was able to manage those textures in certain games and some other effects in others, but it was never able to pull all that stuff at the same time.
As for that old face guy, it was the purpose of the whole Emotion-Engine stuff... things like that weren't accomplished until Half-Life appeared. A game that hasn't been ported to the PS2 because it wasn't powerful enough to execute the game.
I wouldn't say that Sony was offering a weak console, because it wasn't, however, they made their customers to believe that it was way more powerful than what it actually was, and in my opinion, they're trying to play the same game this time. Only that, this is Microsoft who they're competing here, not SEGA. |
