Posts: 1,365 | Final Fantasy XI on Xbox360 Square Enix Ltd. announced today that their upcoming Xbox360 version of their hugely successful multi-platform MMORPG will be on show to the attendees of the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany, which runs from August 17-21. Presentations will take place at both Square Enix's own stand, situated within the NGL Gaming Arena, and at Microsoft's Xbox stand. European gamers will get their first look at the next generation gateway to the world of Vana'diel where 500,000 other players from across the globe already adventure.
In FINAL FANTASY®XI, players undertakes multiple adventures through vast environments in the world of Vana'diel, which has more than 100 areas to explore, including mountains, forests, glaciers, deserts, oceans, rivers, castles and dungeons. Players travel through these areas using various modes of transportation including chocobos, ferries and airships. Incorporating time and climate changes, ranging from daytime to evening, blazing sunshine to dense fog and thunderstorms to heavy snow, Vana'diel's persistent world is comprised of unique nations: the Republic of Bastok, known for industry and might; the Kingdom of San d'Oria, a proverbial city within a fortress, and the Federation of Windurst, founded on the fruits of knowledge. While these nations enjoy a friendly relationship on the surface, territorial expansion is a constant and natural desire for their leaders, causing an underlying antagonistic tone. Players must choose one of these nations as their home and carry out quests and missions not only to benefit their nation but also uncover the past, present and future of Vana'diel.
The game allows players to create an alter ego who will exist in the world of Vana'diel, choosing from a variety of races, facial features and hairstyles. Gamers can play at their own pace and form parties by utilizing the various communication tools that have been incorporated into FINAL FANTASY® XI, including easy-to-use chat and messaging systems. Players will become immersed in an expansive, original story that not only includes fighting for the glory of their nation, but also non-battle related skills such as alchemy, leathercraft, goldsmithing and fishing. While players may start out on their own, as they advance, they will realize the advantages and enjoyment found in joining parties. Communication and interaction with other characters and the environment are key as gamers create a new fate for the world of Vana'diel. |

What's good about this is PS2 gamers didn't get Final Fantasy XI in PAL terrorteries because the HD was never released here. So the only way for them to play it was on the pc. Yet again MS steals a little bit of thunder from Sony in releasing Final Fantasy XI world wide so every region can play it on-line.

Posts: 452 | Ah, I knew there was another. The Marvel one sounds great, I could get it on PC but I would have to see how it plays on the 360 first.

Actually that is a good point, now that I am more busy with running this site, and other jobs and projects, will I even get the chance to play MMORPG's?
Are these types of games only even viable for students, or adults with a lot of time on their hands? |

Posts: 47 | Good thing, tbh. I've been watching this one pretty closely, as the community in general is up in arms.
At first they were saying they were going to create new servers for the XBox360 version of the game, which would have royally pissed the PS2 people off.
They decided not to. I think that was a smart move.
However, FFXI is kind of a dying breed. It's been around for longer than WoW and EQ2, and has less than half the playerbase.
.. and, to answer your question, Stinger; I would not recommend FFXI to you if you are looking for an RPG, per say. However you may like the (hopefully soon)upcoming FFXII.
FFXI isn't much like Oblivion.

Posts: 11 | MMORPG are short for Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game.
It really is surprising how Square Enix is moving their Playstation exclusive to the Xbox360. Even with the triple-core processor and massive graphics engine the 360 has, the game will be a burden to the 360. The graphics are going to be insane.
