The " WAR "

Hey guys. I was reading an electronic gaming monthly or something and it seemed that everyone was predicting for the ps3 to win the "war". They said the only real thing going for the 360 is Live. What if Sony comes out with their own online gaming similar to Live. With the better graphics and features it would be a better system is what they were saying.

This will be a lot different to the PS2 v Xbox "war" - that much is for sure

For me it's about the games more than the features a system offers, and to be honest Sony have very few games compared to both Nintendo and MS that appeal to me. If MS's fantastic launch line up is an indication of things to come, 360 gamers are going to be on one hell of a ride this coming generation. At the end of the day whether MS come first, second or last I don't really care as long as they keep producing quality games and providing a fantastic on-line service, then I'll be happy.

Well, unfortunately PS3 has a huge fan base that prefers to ride on Sony hype rather than figuring out things for themselves. Some are realizing the deception, but the vast majority will not.

XBL is a successful point of M$. Unless Sony can produce something of that quality for free or cheap, they may crush M$- but not likely, and here is why: M$ has secured more software support than Sony for the Xbox 360, and M$ will be out 6-18 months earlier than PS3. (This is riding on some reports that PS3 may launch in 2007.) If the PS3 does launch in 2007, then 3 years later, M$ will launch its newer console and Sony will have to play "catch-up".

Nevertheless, it does come down to games, and if you have looked at the starting line-up and planned games for 2006, it is absolutely nuts how much M$ has coming out for the Xbox 360. There is something for everyone, literally. If PS3 bumps back the launch date (hopefully to fix that muffed up architecture) to 2007, M$ will gain a lot of support, maybe even enough to eclipse PS3's support. We shall see.

i'm just wondering. how do you come up with the ps3 having better graphics?

didn't the tokyo conference clips impress you? or do you still believe those killzone 2 graphics are in-game?

i just want to know, because sony just had a conference where they were showing off the alpha kit graphics and they were sub-halo2 level. i don't really see that being impressive.

egm is a huge sony fanboy circus. xbox barely gets headlines and they focus all their attention to how great the ps2 games are. xbox 360 has more than just UNMATCHED online gaming (ps3's is going to be free, so logically it'll suck) plus the greatest lineup of games ever seen. pd0, GOW, quake4, oblivion, 3n, etc. they are all incredible.

the hardware, if you are techie enough to break down the components, is in the 360's favor when it comes to gaming. if these were pc's, ps3 hands down, but there are too many latent and unneccessary addons they've chosen to help suck up what little bandwidth they have.

software-wise so far 360 hands down.

sure ps3 will inherit a huge fanbase. but you forget that the xbox beat sony in sales this holiday season, and has 23 million people on its console right now. the 360 can pull a win off if they these things:

buy out the ps3 commercial time
drop the 360 price to $249.99 in september/october
halo3, same time as nm ps3 release
massive marketing blitz this winter
the last 2 conferences go without a hitch and they exceed expectations
they achieve a crack in the japan market (something they haven't done)

there's always a chance. didn't people a while ago tout nintendo as the #1 console? where did sega go?

everything changes and that's why that magazine is a fanboy roll of tp.

everyone this gen is touting how the next gen consoles will wipe your *** for you in the bathroom and cook you breakfast and teleport it to you while you're in bed. if it wasn't for the games, these consoles would be nothing.

the graphics at E3 for the ps3 werent the real graphics.

I predict that Microsoft will catch up to Sony in the console market, and gain a lot more market share. I doubt they will take the lead. It will be hard to bring down Sony and their established fanbase. Many Sony loyals are realizing the lies of Sony's hype machine, and are planning on buying an Xbox 360 over the PlayStation 3. Microsoft is coming out sooner, cheaper, and with more games than Sony is, as of now. Xbox Live will be a very strong selling point for the 360.

Many gamers and Japanese gamers will be forced to buy a 360 because of all the developer support it is getting. They will want to play their favorite franchises now. Some gamers, like myself, just can't wait for a new system.

I highly doubt Sony will launch in 2007. Analysts have predicted this, but this might be suicide for Sony. More and more fanboys would just buy a 360 for the games. And that's what it all comes down to: The Games. Microsoft is coming out very strong and their early release date will dent Sony's fanbase.

I don't understand why people really care who wins "the console war". It is the creators of the consoles who are getting paid. We are dishing out our money to them. I guess you could say the winner of the war determines the future of games, but that is a long ways away.
