Are you trying to extend the length of your Ethernet cable?

They do make an RJ45-to-RJ45 female adapter to extend the length of your cable; but the worse case scenario if you can't find one, is just buy a longer Ethernet cable.

if cable is too long it can also lose signal.

True. But Cat5 cable doesn't start to attenuate till about 100meters (300 feet). I'm assuming his surroundings will fall within this window. lol

I built a 50ft ethernet cable in CISCO Networking 1 so I could play Xbox 360 on Xbox Live in my basement. However, since my dad bought a new TV, now my Xbox 360 is within 4 feet of my computer.

I used to have a wireless setup, I hated it and wouldn't suggest it to anyone. Just buy a really nice router. Measure all the appropriate lengths for all the cables and buy the cables for each one.

thanks guys that was a lot of help, i will go and buy an adapter. And ya my 360 is only about 15-20 feet from my computer, but i am going to make the wires so that you could barely see them, so its about 50 feet of cable. But anyways i really appreciate you're guys' help. thanks again.

They do make Ethernet couplers, but I agree with Italia that a longer cable would be the best way to go.

Yeah for every peice you put in between the connection of the router and the xbox you will lose signal strength and quality,

Unless you use a repeater.

You probably wouldn't take too much of a hit unless you were coupling something like 5 10ft patch cables together.

Your best bet is to get a longer ethernet cable. If you use the adapter or repeater you may end up adding more issues. Then when you troubleshoot it will be harder to debug. < Just my opinion!>

what all of them are saying is true, a straight shot of cable is better than connecting two together, but its not like u need a perfect network, so you could just go ahead and connect ur two cables, it wont really show performance wise one way or the other at this level
