What's up with the Hard Drives?

I got lucky and found ONE 360 left over on the 23rd, thanks to some dude not picking up his preorder and thus forfeiting it.

The only downside was that it was the Core System, and I of course wanted to purchase the Platinum, but hey, beggers can't be choosers.

Onto the point. I tried to purchase a Hard Drive with it, EB was sold out. So was every other store that would carry it around the mall EB was in. So is EVERY FRIGGIN' STORE online. I mean, this thing is SOLD OUT everywhere. (Unless you wanna pay upwards of $250 for it)

So what's the deal? A small video game store owner here in town said MicroSoft is only distributing as many hard drives as Core Systems to stores. So... Does this mean I have to go stand in line for a hard drive after I so luckily and comfortably found the system, the very thing that was utter torture for so many to procure? (lol)

Has anyone heard anything about this? The system is seriously lacking without the Hard Drive. I had to buy a memory card because I got tired of the first 4 levels of Perfect Dark over and over again.

Would one expect these things to blow off the shelves as soon as they hit them?

i live in florida and went to my eb in the mall i got a hard drive yesterday 11-25 they told me they just got it in the store a few min befor i got there. but every other store did not have it sold out bestbuy online and in store same for eb online also eb said for online "orders taken after November 21, 2005 may not ship until march 2006". gamestop in store and online also the same for circuit city in store and online. i even went to a very small video game store to try to get it they don't know when when they are geting it.

im not sure, some places i thought i saw online had them, best buy probably wont have them(they never have anything) besides just dropping by or checking online retailers, i dunno what to tell you

Yeah Ive noticed every where I go they have tons of controllers, memory cards, remotes etc. but no hard drives. Im sure theyre not selling out like crazy unless a lot of people couldnt get one with their Core at the time they bought it. Just keep looking man, youll find one. If I see any online anywhere Ill let you know.

Did you ask your EB games store if you could reserve a copy?Thats what i did.I put 5 dollars down on it tuesday and came in friday.And now i can
stop playing the same levels of COD2 and PDZ over and over again.

my target only had one hdd and we sold it before the 22nd so everyone that was forced to buy a core was stuck with a mem card, i dunno why they did not ship more, they would have sold...

Thanks guys. Problem solved.

I had my girlfriend call around for me this morning, and the nearby EB had 3 in stock. She asked if they would pull one aside for us and they did.

So yeah, got my HDD.
