Default HELP! I can't connect through my router and I'm desperate

Ok I got a Belkin wireless G router from Wal-Mart and I can't connect to Live if my life depended on it. I have the X-box 360 wireless adaptor and it seems to be working fine. The thing is it can't connect to my wireless router. It acts like it finds it but doesn't want to connect. It then says "not connected" and it won't pass the Live connection or media connection test.

I've tried almost every trick and every suggestion from the help online and I was wondering if anybody could help.

As for the distance and everything, there are two walls separating the two at a distance of about 15 feet. So I don't think interferance is a big deal. There are no things that would cause interferance.

So I'm wondering, could I have a bad router? I mean could the Belkin not be able to support Live and I might need to get something else?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you test the router to make sure it is actually connecting to the internet? Do you have a wireless laptop to test the router? Do the security settings on the adapter match that of the router? Obviouly you read the article here at PlanetXbox360 on WPA2 not being supported.

Yes. It seems to do fine with the solid connections.

No. I don't have a wireless laptop so I can't really test this.

How exactly would I go about doing this? I think I've done some but not all.

I saw that and looked at the box. It said the security was WPA so I take it I'm ok still?

Ok I figured out how to get to my security settings on my router. Can you guys tell me if I'm in troulbe or not?

This is what it shows.

Allowed Client Type > WPA/WPA2 WPA2 Only WEP Disabled

Right now it's on WPA/WPA2, since the article says WPA2 isn't supported, should I go to WEP or disable it?

Set it to WEP and then match the WEP key number on the adapter.

I think that will help. I put it on "disabled" for now and it worked.

I have a new problem though, I connected very shortly to live and then it kicked me off. Now it won't pass any tests on the DNS. Also, it won't let me connect to the internet on my computer unless I just run it through the DSL modem. If I leave it plugged into the adaptor the message "conflicting IP address." Any suggestions?

Oh, so you know, I can't get the primary and secondary DNS servers because I don't have them. Our connection was set up so they're given automatically and the connection is given a specific one.

Default Wireless trouble

Check you SSID on both the wirless adapter and you wireless router to make sure they are the same. Also check to make sure the correct channel is being used on the wireless adapater as in the router (both should be the same). If you are using secuirty both should be setup the same on the router and also the adapter.

What type of error do you see when trying to connect to XBOX LIVE???

DNS not found, IP not found????

UPDATE

I just re-installed the router with the CD that came with it and that fixed the problem. I was able to connect to Live and played for 3-4 hours.

BUT

I was on and I got disconnected, I tested the connection and I went back to square 1. The DNS part of the test failed and I couldn't get online with my computer. This is what was happening last night.

I unplugged the router and plugged it back in and it seemed to fix the problem with the computer. I haven't checked my 360 but I'm going to.

Have you tried to update the firmware on the router?

Yes, the firmware could be the problem, check for the newest version, and update it. Even if it's the same version, I have worked with corrupt firmware before, and updating it fixed the problem.
