That's not true. You just have to be at the right place at the right time to find a premium. They are out there. I found mine in store with on reservation. You just have to look and do research.

I would only suggest getting a core if there is sufficient supply of Hard drives available, the core can't utilise enough of the features of the 360 without this, as the 64 Mb memory unit is pretty pathetic when you think a demo is around 600Mb. Also if you have an HDTV I would wait for a premium because only that comes with the composite HD cable, unless ur HD has A VGA input then you can use one of them because the component HD cable is very rare, well at least in my area.
i looked there but no luk. i was at wal mart the other day and i was just about to get a 360 on layaway or whatever and some guy took it right when i asked for it. p!$$es me off

i got a premium, but am looking for a core for my huge clan gathering in april. I don't need the hd because i have two original xboxes and a 360 that can play xbox games, i nees a second 360 to system link GRAW and COD2. Found some onsale at kmart online, but by the time my cc payment cleared it was sold out again. Ill get one by april 8th, heck by then ill just get a second premium. Than I will have one ready to go when a good modchip comes out
I bought a Core, along with a Hard Drive and another controller. NO stores had the HDs, and then, out of all places, Kmart has a LOAD of them stocked. I never expected Kmart to have Hds. Go KMART! XD

noone thinks of k mart thats why they have that stuff
if you have the money to buy a core, HD, would actually use the component cables, and don't mind having atleast one wired controller - get the core if you want the 360 now. Don't bother with any memory cards (not worth it since the HD is only 60 more...)
with the premium, the most u will spend on accessories is about $$170 ( wirless networking adapter, play and charge kit, 12+1 month xbox live gold card) with the core its all that + about 250, so 250+170=420. the premium is cheaper in the long run
MY Opinion is that you should wait to find a premium, core + Hd = same price as premium, but with no head set no wire less controller no remote control, you have almost 4 moths without a 360 already you can wait a couple of weeks more, with all that money you are going to spend on making your core into a premium you should spend it on games, that's my opinion
