Posts: 15 | I can't stand the freezing..... I am freezing up at least one time a day right now. I have my 360 horizontal on a wood surface by itself in a fairly cool room. I only have to play for an hour for it to start. I do not get any "red lights" (which I have never seen) and have to restart it each time. I have tried clearing the cache and giving it more time to cool down and nothing seems to help. I never had this problem with COD or Perfect Dark. My system has probably froze 40 times now and only once on anything other than Oblivion. Is anyone else having major issues like this? Do you know of anything I could do to help prevent this? |

Posts: 15 | That is what I thought, but I seemed to be having this issue more than others. I did not know if I was possibly over heating it and should try standing it up. I really did not want to do that and have my daughter knock it over....

Posts: 17 | I also have the lockup problem, however it mostly occurs on a loading screen. Very rarely otherwise.... now about 60hours into the game and it has probably locked up about 6-8 times.. so about 1 time every 8 hours or so...
Sometimes I play 6-12 hours at a time with no problems, sometimes it locks up a couple.. I've been waiting about 5 minutes (to make sure data is not being written to the HD), then giving it the cold finger.
The system doesn't really get hot either and the cache thing doesn't make much difference.
Do you use multiple profiles on your xbox with multiple people playing this game? For me it almost seems like the game slows down a lot when switching amongst xbox profiles... might have something to do with it.
Anyway, good luck! |

Posts: 6 | I had this problem for a while now and have never played Oblivion. My screen would freeze and a red checkered pattern would overlay the screen. After a restart everything would be ok. Then this weekend I got the 3 red lights. Now the Xbox won't turn on. I called Microsoft today and they said it might be a power supply problem. They also said its still under warranty and I bought it on 11-22-05. |

Posts: 1,440 | Possibly could be your 360, Oblivion has never locked on me in my 360 or my brothers. My first 360 locked up on me every once in awhile then one day it started doing it a lot then eventually crashed. My new 360 has yet to lock up once. I would call MS support and let them know the problem.

Posts: 96 | I think a lot of it has to do with the virtual storage of the textures and map onto the harddrive. I didn't have any problems until I started the main quest and had Oblivion Gates opening up everywhere. For now it seems to be a software problem that doesn't dump the virtual storage when it needs to and then freezes up during a load screen. I noticed it alot during load screens after I had just obtained a Sigil Stone. I just save first and then pray to god it doesn't lock up. Seems to be that if you do the manual virtual dump (holding "A" on startup) it helps but after about 30mins-1hour I encounter a lock-up during a load screen. Hopefully something will be released for this but it may not be for a while.

Posts: 246 | my old 360 ran alot cooler when vertical (heat rises) and didn't freeze as much (only ever froze once in oblivion), but i got fed up of it, and went back to the store i bought it and got a brand new replacement. My old console used to freeze alot in GR:AW and pgr3. My new one is stable as, and hasn't froze AT ALL. I thought it was a software issue also, but my new console is going fine, so ... i'm not sure about that |

Anyway, good luck! | We seem to be in the same boat. My roommate and I both have profiles on the 360 and play it for long periods of times on occasion. (ok, every weekend) I do not remember if it froze any other time other than load screens. That is definately when it happens the most. I think that I am going to give M$ a call and see what they have to say. It really does not sound like I am overheating so I doubt they will do anything.

With my newest character I have not even started the main quest. I have taken up a "I will play until it freezes" philosophy. At least something gets me to put the game down.

Posts: 166 | My girlfriends 360 was doing the same, every game she had would freeze constantly. Then one day she couldn't start up any of her games at all. She's got a Pro version of the 360 and the guy at Xbox support said it was the hard drive. She had it replaced and no problems since then.
My 360 (a core with a hard drive) is now starting to freeze up a lot in all of my games. Just like hers did. I have one month left on my 90 day warranty as of tomorrow so I called up support and asked if I could still do that 2 year warranty thing because the slip you get says mail within 10 days. The guy on the phone said you can get it anytime within your 90 days so I got that 2 years just to be on the safe side. With my luck it would 91 days after buying it and then it would die and I'd be sol. |

Great idea... haven't looked at the box since I took the system out, but I will definitely put in for that 2 years support.
I have the Pro System and that hard drive better not die!! Or at least until I am done with getting all my player points on Oblivion. LOL -- Would hate to have to start over from scratch. |

Posts: 1 | my boyfriend get his xbox 360 two months ago, everything was running fine. he went and got the oblivion game and suprise suprise it kept freezing, so we did the holding down A thing at the start of the game and after that it was running fine, about 30mins later the whole system crashed and kept coming up with system error signs. we contacted the xbox people and they are know sending us a new xbox. my thoughts on this is that its a problem with all the xboxs that have been brought out, i belive that they can't run these new big games that have come out like oblivion. |
