On next week there is propably coming a new .swf file to the origen (again) so that may reveal more. I personally think it's too early to make definite judgements about the origen's purpose. It can be something about Halo 3 or Xbox360 or HD-DVD or anything that relates to Microsoft and/or Xbox360. So...we'll just gave to wait, unless we kidnap one of Microsoft's origen-employees!! Muahahahahaaaa...
I thought really hard about it and figured, it HAS to be a HALO MOVIE ANNOUNCEMENT!
But then I thought about it again. Why would it have xbox 360 in the URL?
I REALLY HOPE it's going to just give us the HD-DVD support. If it does that would own so much. Then people can stop whining about the whole limited support deal.
Yeah, I sure hope HD-DVD too. That would be unbelievebly amazingly terrific thing to announce with that sort of site. But...we must not hope too big things or we'll just depress when we hear that it's something samller.. Yep, I know I'm just repeating things that have already been said.
My question is what is actually possible. HD-DVD seems to be a bit off the wall seeing how they have even stated that HD-DVD has been delayed for a while. Something about Halo 3 makes since. Also, an official list of X-Box games to be playable on the 360 fits. It could also be games know to be launch titles.
Yeah, I sure hope HD-DVD too. That would be unbelievebly amazingly terrific thing to announce with that sort of site. But...we must not hope too big things or we'll just depress when we hear that it's something samller.. Yep, I know I'm just repeating things that have already been said.
The way I see it, as an issue for gaming either all 360's should have HD-DVD or none at all.
(All games HD-DVD or all DVD only. Double SKU's on games are confusing enough to the average joe with collectors edition - I would think if Col. Ed.'s weren't metallic/silver cover most of the time people would have a siezure.)
It would be pointless to release a system with DVD support, only to start making more with HD-DVD support and then start releasing some games as HD-DVD only. That would hurt so much.
But as far as media goes, I can see later giving HD-DVD support only for the purpose of viewing movies. Of course they will have to shove that fact thuroughly down everyone's throat because every Sony fanboy and their mother will be ranting on about how we're getting "screwed."
I think we all know M$ isn't going to make a dumb move like that. THAT'S why I think there could be an HD-DVD announcement, stating all 360's will come with HD-DVD support. I know it's probably less likely than to hope for, but who knows... 7 DAYS LEFT!
But, if I really cared about watching HD-DVD movies so badly I can just buy a movie player that supports it. Whooptydooo!
Shadow, Zam, Sirus, and Shovel Ninja from our fourms have may have found the site's(www.origienxbox360.com) purpouse
Shovel Ninja found a latin phrase on one of the leaves of the tree this is what is says
Quote:"in hoc spatio arbor noster floruit , fecundus pomies elysii ignoti , qui in loco ludent electi , ab originis angelis circumdati"
Translated it means
Quote:In this space our tree has flourished abundant with the unknown fruits of Elysium, who will play in the chosen place, surrounded by the angels of Origen
Elysium was where the master chief was born before being taken away at the age of 6 to be made into a spartan. Sirus also pointed out that someone found bungie's adress in one of the branches.
Earlier this week, we reported about the latest update to the Origen Xbox 360 website, in which the teaser site had a phrase in Latin placed in one of the tree branches (you can go now to www.origenxbox360.com and right click on the tree and select Zoom In. Do that three times over the branch near the bottom). The phrase in question was:
in hoc spatio arbor noster floruit, fecundus pomies Elysii ignoti, qui in loco ludent electi, ab Originis angelis circumdati.
That would translate in English as:
In this space our tree has flourished abundant with the unknown fruits of Elysium, who will play in the chosen place, surrounded by the angels of Origen.
Although that sounds like a suggestion to either the rumored stores that will open on Tokyo and New York’s Time Square, or the first Xbox 360 kiosk appearing in stores, a new clue gives us a third option.
Kirill Wiser emailed us to inform us that Elysium is the name of the city in which John Spartan-117, aka Master Chief, grew up before being replaced with a flash clone in order to join the Spartan II program on Reach.
When we first discovered the Latin phrase in Origen Xbox 360, we immediately associated it with the Greek term. In Greek mythology, the Elysium (the spelling Elysium is a Latinization of the Greek word Elysion) are the Elysians Fields, the place where the mortals favored by the gods can go when they die. It is a peaceful and beautiful place similar to the modern concept of paradise.
One can understand why Bungie chose that name for the city in which Master Chief grew up but now the connection with Origen Xbox 360 is remarkable.
Interestingly too, the name of Halo 2 third and final boss is Tartarus, which again in Greek Mythology, is the opposite of the Elysium, the Underworld zone of eternal torment, where the greatest sinners were punished for their transgressions.
So now a new question rise: Is the Origen Xbox 360 web site counting down to the official announcement of Halo 3 on September 27th? Well, in only three weeks we’ll find out what Origen Xbox 360 is all about.
This really isn't interesting anymore, it's frustrating.
You are probably just where the creator of this marketing scheme wants you.
Well, I just came across all of this a whopping two hours ago while reading through the weekly update (last weeks) for Bungie.net - apparently people are forwarding the link and asking questions like mad - to which they have no answers. Do I belive them? Maybe. Do I think it's Halo 3 related? No - why would they make such a stink about Halo 2 compatiblity, and turn around H3 within 12 months of H2? Doesn't make sense on any level. The closest Halo reference (as shown in the previous posts about the Latin cities and terms) would be the announcement of the Halo movie, again the only link would be the movie release to coincide with the release of H3 - that I'd believe.
In addition, why would Nintendo and XB join forces? Nintendo does just fine overseas, and they have already announced their own next-gen system. They just released the Gameboy Micro this week, and have nothing to be worried about. The closest alliance they would have is both being in Washington.
Now... Here's some juicy bits bound to piss all of you off:
1. I, too, pulled the Flash code. As a programmer, I can tell you that the counter is certainly going down to ZERO on Sept 27th, NOON, your PC time. The problem is that once this happens, it's set to jump to a flag in the file, which only tells it to stop. You didn't think they post the whole site, knowing that decryption tools like this exist?
In case you are curious how I know for sure the date, the programming function date.utc(2005, 8, 27, 12) translates time into milliseconds, to the tune of:
1. YEAR
2. Month, as 0-11, thus 8+1 = 9, or September
3. Day, as 1-31 (I don't know why this doesn't start at 0 too)
4. Hour, 0-23 -- such as military time 12=Noon
Additional, but not included as they are optional, elements would be Minutes and Seconds, both 0-59; and milliseconds, 0-999.
What the countdown does confirm is the number 360.
1. Add the month to the date... 9 + 27 = 36
2. Now include the final value of the counter... 0
3. Result = 360
2. The tree you are looking at is an Olive Tree. The "fruit" of the tree, are infact, Green Olives. The color scheme for the new XBox is White, Green, and Black, no??
3. The most important element of the whole damn puzzle thus far (and the one to piss you off). While extracting elements of the Flash document, I discovered the font used (and later that it was also mentioned at teamxbox ) for the countdown numbers is named "Magritte" -- A font that, in my knowledge (and Yahoo, Google, Dogpile, and others) have never heard of. m$ or whomever has purposely named it as such - why??
You have to understand more history to the famous painter Rene Magritte than txb provided. The link of the painting and the image is a step in the direction of the painter (knowing the font name just helps). Remember, this font does not exist anywhere on the known Internet (as google might say) - it was deliberatly named after the artist.
One of the most famous quotes from Rene Magritte reads as follows: "My painting is visible images which conceal nothing; they evoke mystery and, indeed, when one sees one of my pictures, one asks oneself this simple question 'What does that mean'? It does not mean anything, because mystery means nothing either, it is unknowable."
Although there were some Early Christian writers, notably Origen, who denied the physical existence of the earthly paradise, seeing in the biblical account only a tissue of allegories,3 most early commentators were prepared to accept the earthly paradise as a real place, which, to be sure, had the potential for further allegorization, like all objects in the material world.4 Early Christian writers obtained their information about the topography
of paradise from two main sources. Primarily, of course, they drew upon the biblical account, contained in the book of Genesis, with a little supplementary information from Revelation. They expanded upon the details given in scripture with the aid of the literary tradition of the Elysian fields, derived ultimately from Homer. These biblical and pagan sources provided certain landscape features which became constants in the early Byzantine
views of the earthly paradise. First, the garden was furnished with a variety of fruit trees, which are evoked in the book of Genesis.5 These trees can be seen in the three later medieval copies of the map of the earth which originally illustrated the sixth-century Christian
Topography by Kosmas Indikopleustes. Here the earthly paradise is portrayed as a rectangle framing fruit-bearing trees, situated to the east of the inhabited earth, beyond the encircling ocean, as may be seen in a ninth-century manuscript of the Christian Topography in the
Vatican (Fig. 1).6 Another constant feature of paradise was its beautiful scents, which were described by several writers.7 It also had a special climate, without extremes of heat or cold, in which all fruits were ripe at all times of the year. Exceptionally, samples of such fruits
reached mortals, as happened to the ascetic St. Apollo and his five disciples, who were mysteriously brought paradisal fruits of every kind out of season while they were sojourning in a cave in Egypt.8
These notions about the atmospheric and meteorological conditions in paradise were derived from both the biblical and pagan traditions. The book of Revelation says that the Tree of Life, which Genesis placed in the earthly paradise, yielded its fruit each month of the year,9 while Homer said that the Elysian fields provided the easiest kind of living to humans,
with no harsh winter and no storms of rain or snow.10 The equable climate of paradise became a favorite theme of Early Christian writers. According to a sermon attributed spuriously to St. Basil the Great: “in that place . . . there is no wintry ice, no dampness of spring, no heat and burning of summer, no dryness of autumn, but a temperate and peaceful mutual concord of the seasons of the year.”11 Likewise, in the Tenth Hymn on Paradise
by Ephrem Syrus we read: “somber February laughs here like May ... our miserable months become like Eden.”12 In later Byzantine paintings of paradise, this mixing of the weathers is represented by a white background, as shown in the maps of the earth contained in the medieval copies of K osmas Indikopleustes (Fig. 1). 13
There is an amusing satire upon these paradisal descriptions in the Timarion, which was composed in the twelfth century. Here the protagonist visits the Elysian fields and finds a place without seasons, where spring never fades and fruit is ripe all through the year. As for the fragrances, these are provided by vegetables that had a sweet aroma before being eaten and produced sweet burps afterwards.14
Why hasn't the .swf file changed yet? Usually at this tmie od the week it had changed, but why not this week or is it gonna change. But...4 DAYS, 22 HRS, 25 MIN AND 40 SECS!!!!!
