Default Scrap the core package.

Personally I don't think theres any need for the cheap little package, that hardly dosen't have half the features it dosen't have acess to onlinr mutiplayer only voice nd video chat on weekends, nor does it have acess to downloadable content, the prenium package isn't that more expensive so what do you say scrap the core package or not. ?

Hard to say depends some people want it but can't afford the $400, as for me I am getting the premium, but I can understand some people will have hard time coming up with the $400, and after all they can always upgrade buy buying harddrive and wireless controllers later and the other accesories that is offered with the premium package.

Ya but thats so so stupid because the controller is 59.99 and the 20 gb is like 80bucks so why not save a extra 100 i personally think its ripping the people off who buy the core system cause later when they upgrade it will cost much more then if the just bought the preium package, SO DONT BUY tHE CORE!!! lol

When are people going to realise that by the very fact that you come to these forums, you are naturally keen gamers and will therefore be less receptive to the core pack - you represent about 1% of the XBox gaming community, if that. Of course the premium one offers much better value, but what if you don't need/want a 20Gb HD, wireless controller, headset etc.?

One of my mates is buying his 12 year old son one for Christmas. They have broadband, but his son currently isn't interested in Live, and he doesn't want the hassle of changing/charging batteries in the wireless controller. He'll be buying the core pack, and using the money saved to get a couple of games. He personally thinks that an extra $100 or whatever is a waste of money for extras that he is not going to use in the short-term. Sure, he'll need a memory card...that's it. It's his choice, learn that people.

Money isn't everything to all people. Something is worth what you are willing to pay. Some see the premium pack as amazing value. Some see it as a waste of money.

Just to add to Nomino's post.

There are only 2 million Live subscribers out of around 10 million (I'll have to check on that figure) Xbox gamers. To alot of gamers Live isn't what they want out of gaming. They just want to sit at home and play through the single player games and maybe get a few friends around to have a blast on the multiplayer side of things. These people don't need a hard drive to play games, so why have it in the machine if they don't need it. Yes they'll have to buy memory cards to save games, but that's what most people do now on the PS2 and GameCube.

The Core package will appeal to gamers who aren't interested in going on line, or maybe who are new to gaming and just want to play a few games now and again.

The only issue there is is the ability to play older Xbox games on the 360. You may need the HDD for the emulator software, unless of course MS build it into the systems architecture some how.

No. Some people may not want to go online, and that alone basically renders the Hard Drive useless as Downloadable Content will be the main use of the HD.
It provides gamers with what they basically need, minus a Memory Card, which can be bought alongside it.

I'm getting the Core Package because I don't use Xbox Live, but I am a hardcore gamer. All of that gear is not for me. Don't mund if the controllers are wired, don't need the batteries then.

Its a hundred bucks!? later you will probably need more storage space and you will buy the 20GB, and when you do you'll pay the same or a little more.... when you could of just got preium package in the first place.

The core package is just made so retailers can draw people in with a $299 price point, tell them that there are no more core systems left and then sell them the prmium.

it's useless for dedicated gamers, but for casuals (ones who don't care about harddrives and xbl) it's perfect.

they'll get a memory card (just like ps2, eh) and they'll be just as happy.

i'd say keep it for those kinds of people.

You guyz should read the articles posted here.
Matt in his "Core or Prenium - Hard Drive or Not" article clearly says that the core package is a strategy against PS3.
Think about it Ps3 will be around 700bucks (rumors) and will not have a HD.
Microsoft on the other hand offers 360 at 300 (without HD) for 300 to give 360 one more advantage

look people, not everyone can afford the premium either...i would love to get it...but i can't it is too expensive....also, u get silver live w/ the premium... u can't play games with other people on silver...u can get downloads and chat w/ people, but u can't actually play games...so for gold live...that's another 50 $ a year...i think that M$ is being really cheap with all these gimmicks

i seriously see no purpose for it. even though J Allard says it is for ppl just getting into games, they still might want a HD or at least a memory card so they can save games.
