The flood gates

Ok... my Rainbow Six Vegas streak came to a screeching halt... ha, ha, ha... after finishing the whole Vegas thing, I was headed to the Colorado River Dam to get Irina... I cleared the first three stages, rescued the operator/hostage and got him at the central... then after clearing the filed below and having my team hack the flood gate computer outside I am stuck!!!... when they start and a big door open with about a gazillion guys coming out, I can hold them up (sometimes!) but then when I do I get a "Failed to open the floodgates in time" message... what's up with that?... any tips for this 33 yr old first time shooter player?

Well I am not giving up... there must be some other door opening from behind or something... I'll recheck my strategy AGAIN... for now I can hold all the tangos that come from the front... and am using smoke in the booth... it's the message that's bothering me...

I'll try another route tonight, after work... it's my wife's Bday tomorrow, so I HAVE to do it today... I had trouble sleeping because I'm so mad at that section... honest to god!

For those interested, or stryggling at that point, I found a way!

As suspected, there were tangos coming from behind... the misleading "Failed to open floodgates in time" message seems to be deliberately created to confuse... you just have to let your guy hack the computer and protect him from the front and back... some smoke inside there, some marksmanship and a few gutsy moves and that's that.

Yes!... and I even finished the game... it has a few somewhat tough stages... specially a dark wharehouse where they grenade you to death... but a day after I passed the floodgates thing I managed to finish the story.

I think it is the best game for me. I enjoy palying Rainbow Six Vegas with my friends. And we all agreed that we will always play the game together so that it will be fun and exciting.

I seriously got into it... I didn't play it on "realistic" though... now I want to play more... when I put other games on it just doesn't feel right.

Thanks for posting that, I stopped playing it right at that point. So you are saying they are coming at you from behind. I get a good angle from the wall across from where the team is hacking the cpu and it always says not in time. Ill try it tonight maybe and see if protecting behind works for me.

This is what forums are for, helping each other in hard parts. You dont get that around here on this forum though. Part of the reason is that you can get a good guide for free on the net most of the time.

Yeah... what I did was, let the guys hack the stuff... I didn't stay on the botth... I hide behind the wall on the other side... that's important to avoid fraq and to get as many guys as you can.

Then as the door opens, I throw smoe on the booth.

After a little while, when you are deep into the fight, there's a back door that opens right at the edge behind you... there's like 3 or 4 guys that murder you from behind... those are the ones that kill your guys and make the game give you that dreaded "failed to open the floodgates on time" message just when you think you're kicking ass.

After that point, there are no TOUGHER parts... it's certainly no picnic, specially the dark wahrehouse, but nothing frustrated me more than the floodgates.

Yeah, finished it a few days ago. It wasnt tough once you pointed out that there are guys behind. I found them and took care of it within a few trys. I finished it on Realistic. Gave like 100 points for it. Too bad I dont get all that excited about achievements but it was a great game.
