April 28, 2006 - With Microsoft, the rumors are always true. The next iteration in Bungie Studios' Halo series will appear at E3 2006 in video form at its Tuesday, May 9 news conference, IGN learned today from independent sources who recently spoke with Microsoft executives.


The video is allegedly two minutes long, although its contents weren't divulged. We're guessing a wild breathtaking battle on Earth. Knowing Microsoft, the publisher will want to show all real, in-game engine footage to counter Sony's fantastical CG videos from E3 2005. When Microsoft was contacted, the company issued its standard reply, "We don't comment on speculation and rumors."

E3 is where console manufacturers, publishers, and developers lay down their best hand for hopes of creating buzz and interest leading into the fall season. And E3 2006 is perhaps one of the most crucial for Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo, as each stakes their plot in the next-generation landscape.

Diehard Halo fans shouldn't be too surprised. Bungie is notorious for taking its time, and the game is not likely to come out until 2007. Microsoft's most valuable franchise has been out of the limelight since last year's Map Pack, a set of additional multiplayer maps for 2004's Halo 2. Microsoft has edged away from talking about the next Halo all year long, except to acknowledge Founder Bill Gates' cautionary statements to Sony, claiming that when Sony readies PS3, Halo 3 will launch day and date with it. Microsoft since retracted the statement, claiming Halo 3 will be ready when Bungie is finished.

Recently, however, the company has started to roll up its proverbial Halo sleeves again, acknowledging Halo 3's existence. Microsoft Game Studios' General Manager Shane Kim, in a conversation with New Zealand Website Stuff.co.nz, said:

"You mean the mythical Halo 3? I mean, it's silly to deny its existence when the chairman of MS (Bill Gates) announced it, but I have nothing to announce now, but expect there to be a significant announcement at E3."

You heard it. Expect first details, footage, and wild Halo fanboy Love come E3.

According to american IGN they've got confirmed that Halo 3 will be at E³, in form of a 2 minute long video. Microsoft will show all their games in real-time, and Halo won't be an exception. We can expect graphics that will put games like GoW in the hall of shame.

The press conference will be May 9, 11:30 PST.

Probably the video will be out on Live for download shortly after the conference.

Hmm, I hope there is a weekly update from Bungie today confirming all this, though I kinda doubt it (knowing their track record for giving off details).

Anyway, who is surprised by this? Not I said the fly.

Their is no way of denying this games existence especially after the CEO of the company said it was going to be released. But I know what Bungie is doing and I respect them. This game is far from it's release data (rumored to be March) so their is no point hyping this game up because it will lead to a lot of disapointed games (remember Halo 2 I was so happy when I got it because I thought there was gonne be ATV's and flamethrower neither of which made it into the game both which can be explained on the Halo 2 collectors edition disc). Plus I hate those snitches that work for companies that devulge secrets in the company and therefore losing the surprise element. I hope Bungie for Halo 3 underpromises and over-delivers therefore catching everyone off guard and just amaze everyone away when they first play it on the xbox 360.

A video or some sort of halo 3 media will definitely be available, im hoping for something like halo 2's e3 debut which was a playable demo of sorts. That would certainly prove what the graphics are like.

I got to play whatever our next game is today. Paul Bertone was testing out some new AI stuff and I tooled around on two distinctly different levels, through two distinctly different encounters. One was set up purely for test, the other was a "real" level. I have to say, I had a blast.

The purpose of the test was to see how I would react to the behaviors of various AI opponents. As you can imagine, I befriended them and traded silks for Gold Dubloons with them. I PROMISE this is the last week I will tease you with Pimps at Sea fakery, but most of what I just said is true"

that is on the latest bungie update.... so i'm guessing they are able to talk about halo3 on their weekly updates after e3, and the progression it has

After seeing the game trailer, i have noticed that the Chief is carring an original assult rifle, not a battle rifle with a scope. Does this mean that there might be both weapons in Halo 3? I dont know it would be coo.
