Posts: 9 | Wii's could NOT be had at all during the Xmas rush........But my local Babbages had 4 PS3's a week before Christmas. While it's a fine piece of hardware, Sony has misread the market in my humble opinion. $400 was pushing it.......$600 is waaaaay over the top for a system who's possibly slight hardware advantage won't really become evident for years, if ever - since it's such a ***** to program for. (I used to work holidays at EB, and most of the system's bought after the early adopters had theirs, were bought by kids and young families scraping together to get the coin.......$600 is a LOT of scaping!)
The 360 has a huge advantage there - hell, it's a hardware locked PC that game companies have been programming for forever. Nintendo hit the nail on the head declining to go toe-to-toe, and getting gaming back to it's roots - a cheap entertainment vehicle for the family. Kudos to them doing what Sega could not - saving their a$$es. When there are three of anything, one will be left behind......I'm no longer thinking it will be Nintendo.
So, the Next Gen system of choice 'should' easily be the 360. As long as quality games with an occasional MUST HAVE EXCLUSIVE title keep coming; the others will be GREEN with envy. Sony will bring up the rear unless it can somehow get it's prices down OR BluRay becomes a must have standard. Personally, I have 2 High def TV's and +$100 (cheapest standalone BR player is $500) for BluRay+PS3 wasn't enough to swing me to Sony. Plain Jane DVD over HDMI leaves me nothing to desire.
Finally, the last thing in XBOX's & Wii's favor are software costs. I was able to get Gears of War - a very hot NEW title at Target on sale for $39!!! They had several other titles for the same sale price. Lots of titles....lots of competition = lower prices. All of the PS3 titles will be full price 6 months or more (unless they truly blow!) $60 is a lot of $$$ if you HAVE to spend it for EVERY title!
Good luck Sony...............
