I rented Shadowrun last night, and my take is that i'm not as impressed as I hoped I would be. The magic is fun to use, thats for sure. But as far as the quality of the game, and the amount of work put into it... i'm alittle dissapointed.

For one thing, there are only 2 game modes. CTF(Raid) and Deathmatch(Attrition)- with no variance to either. They are just as they sound, and the attackers must grab an artifact and bring it home. While the defenders... defend. Attrition is simply Deathmatch, kill everyone on the opposing team and you win.

There are 4 races who are pretty well balanced. Human, Elf, Dwarves, and "Beast's"(forget what it's called). Human are the middle of the 4, Elf are fastest and heal themselves(but need magic essence), Dwarves = no headshots, and steal essence, and the Beast's being more of a tank. The Beasts are able to withstand alot of damage, but move slow. Seems pretty balanced and not anything new.

The graphics are o.k. They aren't as good or great as I would have hoped, but I guess they get the job done. The maps are good, although a bit confusing at times. Although the magic is fun to use, and definatly adds a nice touch to the combat. Adds up with all 20 players using some type of magic. At times, I wasn't quite sure what was happening. There was so much crap on the screen, and magic stuff flying around that it got to a point of "wow, just too much."

There are about 12 maps, and each lead to a different type of environment. A snow covered digging site, a corporate building, an Aztec temple, a hanger, city, etc. The maps are not at all that bad. They are built to allow many different paths,and many different strategies. But the maps cannot totally revive my opinion.

My verdict is this: Shadowrun is a 7.0-7.5/10 game. The loss of a singleplayer game is a bit of a downer, along with only 2 gametypes, ok graphics(leaning towards mediocre), and lack of character animations & no overall nice touches. It's nothing amazing & not worth a price tag of $60.

But it's not a horrible game. It's fun, but not enough to justify $60. Many can get their jollies with Shadowrun, and especially enjoy the magic... but many will also forget about this game, move onto better, and leave Shadowrun as a rent.

Bought the game last week, I'm having fun so far but I'm worried that I might get bored playing the same three gametypes over and over. Hopefully they can fix that with some DLC, and it better be free because I already paid $60 for what I feel is an incomplete game. Don't mind not having a single player campaign, but I need more maps and gametypes!!

Picked it up for 29 quid in Tesco earlier.

Played through the training missions which were fun but then when I went to play a game on xbox live it never found any games.

Tried it 3 times leaving at at least 5 minutes looking for games each time.

What's that all about?? dont many people play it on live??

I have to say having playing shadowrun for almost 3 hours it really is not a good game at all.

it's basically Perfect Dark Zero with some different weapons and skills. Even the player animation is the same.

Compared to other shooters like GOW, Rainbow Six, Ghost recon I cant see what Microsoft were thinking releasing a game like this.

When I (eventually after 6 attemps) got a game on xbox live it reminded me so much of Perfect Dark Zero it was unbelievable.

My copy is already on ebay. I just wish I'd have rented it first like others said to do.


My advice to anyone considering buying Shadowrun is that if you're expecting it to be anything as good as gears, rainbow six or ghost recon you'll be bitterly dissappointed - I know I was.

It's just Perfect Dark - the gameplay, the graphics, the lot. And we had that when the console was launched.

I'm gona bite the bullet and buy it.. i just like the way it sounds to much. Magic + Guns = good game!

I'm not really having that much of a problem finding a game. I search, and it brings a game up within 15 seconds or so.

Come to find out, most review sites, unsurprisingly gave this game a 6 out of 10.

I dont think it's THAT low, but a 7.5 out of 10.

Yeah most site reviews are low, but the majority of player reviews give it good scores. And how the hell is it anything like PDZ besides the fact that its a FPS? It feels nothing like PDZ.

This game is nothing like PDZ at all. I've only had problems finding a game once since I purchased it last week, I only had to wait for about five minutes though before I was connected.

Looks like I'm odd one out I love this game. It puts a whole new spin on the tired Fps genre in the form of powers (magic or tech). Yeah it's got it's problems connection can take a while (but I'm sure they'll patch it just like COD) and there aint many game types(more supposedly coming with more maps as free DLC). Where it excels is the sheer variety of options and the way you can have 12 people in a room all using different but totally viable tactics, I'm personally loving my Glider assisted wired reflex ninja dwarf. Oh and how many games have an achievement for Teabagging!!!
