Yes, yes it is a sad day for all of us GTA fans as rockstar annouced today that GTA 4 will be pushed back till April/May 2008.The reason, It's taking more time to develop the game then expected.Personall, this pisses me right off as I have been waiting 4 this forever.What do you guys think about this?You can find all the info here...

Dude, there are like 10 AAA titles comming out between now and then, you will have by far more than enough to keep you busy.

I doubt it's delayed due to development, rather they delayed it because of the killer lineup this autumn. They'll guaranteed sell a lot more copies if they delay it.

I don't really care, in fact I'm kinda happy, there's a lot of games getting released this autumn, and well, they're expensive.

I disagree wholeheartedly that a delay of 6 to 8 months is tied to revenue recognition. That goes against any business sense whatsoever. When you have a cash cow like GTA is guaranteed to be, you ship it ASAP and use the proceeds to develop more titles. Secondly, when you have what is arguably 1 of the 2 biggest titles of the autumn/winter lineup, you don't back down. Finally, they are guaranteed to sell more copies if the game is released sooner. The longer GTA in available in the market, the more copies they sell, plain and simple. From a business standpoint, there is no reason whatsoever for this delay. Without a doubt, there is a technical/development/manufacturing issue in play here. No company would ever delay a game by 2 or 3 quarters because they'd rather have the cash later. If someone told you that they would give you a dollar now, or they would give you one in April, wouldn't you choose to take it now?

Karma, this happens on a consistent basis via the movie industry. Motion picture companies delay releases if their proposed release date falls during a month or a week in which a guaranteed box office hit is suspected. They plan accordingly and release the movie during a time where legitimate box office contenders are few and far in between. This is simple fact and it has been happening for decades now. What makes gaming so different? As a business your priority is to ensure your product is released during a time which will maximize potential purchases which begets higher revenue. To release a game during a time with so much competition would create a division amongst gamers. At $60 a game, most will be forced to prioritize what games they will and will not be purchasing. This is not a very productive business environment and it WILL be a financial detriment to Take-Two regardless of how small or large the impact might be. Take-Two's fiscal year ends October 31st which means the game will only benefit the companies fiscal year numbers for 15 days. That makes absolutely no business sense whatsoever. I suggest you read Michael Pachters' reasoning when he first speculated GTA IV would be delayed.

"Experts" also once said that flying faster than the speed of sound would kill you. GTA needs to be on the market for the holidays to maximize revenue. If you know nothing about games and want to buy a gift for your brats, are you going to go with a game you never heard of, such as Bio-Shock or Two Worlds, or are you going to buy one that you've probably heard of, such as GTA? If they were doing this to delay a revenue stream, there would be a stockholder revolt, and heads would roll in the boardroom. I understand that game and movie release dates are staggered so that they don't conflict, but its the lesser titles that make an adjustment, not the heavyweights. Would George Lucas have moved the Episode 3 release date because the new Ben Afleck movie was coming out, or would the Ben Afleck movie make an adjustment?

well lol you're not probably gonna buy gta for your kids if you've heard of the game before. But yeah it seems odd that a title like gta4 would back out due too stiff competition.....they have a WELL established fanbase all over the world and although halo 3 is a monster gta4 would be one of those games that could take it on. There is ofcourse a flipside to this delay ...atleast you won't feel bad about not playing your gta4 copy cuz you're playing h3 or vise versa.

So you are implying parents are going to buy their children (brats) GTA IV? As stated their Fiscal year ends 15 days after the GTA IV release. It would not have a significant impact for their 2007 numbers therefore shareholders would be more concerned about the year following rather than the current year which is ending soon for Take Two. What does Take-Two have lined up for 2008? Nothing. A GTA IV in 08' would ensure higher revenue and higher sales. That's what businesses want. You do make a valid point as the Christmas season is a huge consumer spending spree and GTA IV would like a piece of the pie. However, they would be garnering revenue for the 2008 fiscal year from November through December which just happens to be the holiday season.
