FIFA '08 Demo Review

This has been out for a couple of days now and i have spent a bit of time playing it , the game is very average basically , there was me thinking maybe this year EA could actually create a football game that would compare to PES(pro evolution soccer) , but i was proved wrong.The gameplay is so slow and sloppy it is nearly painful just to play , the shooting (which Fifa has always had a lack of realism in) has not improved at all very average unlike it's rival PES. A slight positive is the graphics seem to have been updated alot since 07' making it a nice game to look at , but to be honest i would rather have gameplay over graphics , but i will give credit where it is due ,it will look alot better than PES will this year.The only other positives really from the demo were the new tricks that have been added to the gameplay which add's another way of getting around the player your up against, which will be interesting to see online against friends giving you the oppotunity for a bit of a low blow.The Arena also returns to 08' giving you the chance to practise tricks and so forth, and also adding a new running technique while in the arena as when you pull the R trigger it does a 'gears of war' run behind the player a nice little feature , but does not make up for the game in general.But back to the negatives, the first touch on the demo was also very sloppy like the gameplay in general not giving a very realistic feel to the game.

All in all i would rate the Demo around a 4/10 ,Poor to an extent hopefully the full game has a bit more to offer with maybe some new features we are yet to see but i wouldnt hold your breath..I know there are not many football (soccer) fans on the forums , but i thought i would share my view to the minority on the site..

Damn, if that's the best graphics to date, I feel for you soccer hooligans. I wasn't impressed at all.

There are only 2 football games against each other PES and FIFA , and FIFA has always come up trumps in the graphical aspect..hopefully PES will give them a bit of a run for their money in that part of the game...and Karma were you not impressed with the graphics when a player scored and the camera came on them, looked very good ?

You must not have played Madden, NHL 08 or NBA Live 08. Those graphics leave your footie game in the dust. FIFA looked like crap to me.

Well no my friend is giving me Madden for free because he never brought down for for me so i will look then lol ( i dont actually want but i said you guys wanted to play me at it) Madden must look good cause i didnt think they looked to bad..

As long as its 08, I'll tutor you as I did Alex. Its just my cross to bear I suppose. Madden looks good, runs smoothly, and features a great animation branching system. I guess that's what happens when you're EA's big gun.

FIFA 06 Road to World Cup
FIFA 06 Germany World Cup
FIFA 07
FIFA 08 *soon*

Personally, FIFA Germany scored the best and in my opinion was the best to play. Once 07 came out, they tried to create a new gameplay engine, and it just felt slow.

Personally I never got into PES as I guess I prefered the arcadey feel of FIFA series. I was hoping 08 would be better.

Then again, its EA were talking about, their game quality seems to be constantly falling. EA really need to get back to basics, rather than trying to release a game each year and for every sport imaginable, try consolidating and focusing on your biggest titles and making them great.

Otherwise, what will change going forward?

Sounds disapointing Oli, I'll download it next week when i get back, but i had high hopes for it, i thought they were going get it right and be more like PES this year, as although i love PES and the gameplay is top notch PES6 was fugly. But i prefer real gameplay over arcadey BS.

Oh and karma Ive played madden and its hardly beautifull it looks so plastic, everything has a fake shine to it and all the players look like there clothes and skin were lamenated before they got on the pitch, its plasticy. And not to mention boring as hell, every 5seconds the game stops so the ref can say something and its impossible to have a free running game, to many damn pauses and outa play crap, Oli if you buy madden and sell out ill disown you as my son.

ummm...ok

Edit: I don't recall ever using the word "beautiful", but it looks a hell of a lot better than FIFA.

LOL shane im not buying it my friend who is manager at blockbuster is giving me it as there was left over stock *cough* no one her that , and in a way FIFA looks quite plasticy to be fair but even so better graphical wise than PES hopefully konami will get the graphs sorted out for this year. Hope your having a good time shane.

FIFA has always the same games but every time they have slightly improved graphics and new players. At least they dont have audience that look like cut-out cardboard anymore.

Exactly if they spent less time messing around with the graphics so much and focused on the gameplay a bit more they would do so much better..

I played this demo one more time for as long as I could stomach it, just to get a better look at the graphics. Sorry, but Madden is far superior. FIFA 08's frame rate is crap, while Madden is smooth as silk. Madden has several times the number of animations, and despite what Shane says, the character builds in FIFA are blocky, and don't look good. Oli's getting Madden, so I'll wait to hear what he says. I don't give a rat's ass one way or the other, but I was surprised to hear that this is considered to be the better looking game of the two soccer titles. It's not awful, but it's not good either.

i agree, fifa 07 felt really sluggish and slow, i like fifa because of all the liscenced teams and players, i agree the gameplay should be better, especially if "the god" of sports titles make it. problem is EA knows that there really is no competition in both football, and "football" ( dont wanna upset my european buddies

) personally i will play the demo tonight and ill post my reactions, worse comes to worst, itll pull a forza 2 (crappy demo, amazing game) im hoping, if not i may be switching to PES.

played fifa 08 demo last night, and i loved it, it faster than 07, and the aiming system is better. Yes the graphics are a bit choppy when they close in, but remember its a 600 mb demo, not a DVD, the graphics are very nice, much better than 07 but i agree not as nice as madden, Ill prop get fifa08 when it comes out it seems to be a very fun experience. i would say 8.5/10

Also, lets remember this is a demo only, and hopefully not indicitive of the full product.

Ah, who are we kidding, it is the full product, its out on shelves in days!!!!!

Also, someone said it ran at a slow framerate, so much for the E3 comment, all EA games will run at twice the speed/framerate of the 07 games, so like did FIFA 07 run at 15 fps, and now its like 30fps?
