Exclamation Black Not Backward Compatible

info from - www.ign.com

No BC updates since December.

Despite repeated requests to Microsoft by Criterion's Alex Ward, Black, the developer's hot new first-person shooter will not be backward compatible on the Xbox 360.

Black is among the highest-rated shooters to be released in recent months and throngs of gamers are already voicing disappointment that Microsoft has not updated its list of backward compatible titles to include Black, or other Criterion hits like the Burnout series. In fact, Microsoft has failed to update the backward compatibility list since December, when it added a mere six Tom Clancy titles.

360 owners will have to wait until Black 2.

With a pretty dismal list of games on the BC list, and because many high-profile games like Half-life 2 and Ninja Gaiden Black are pretty much broken when played on the 360, many gamers believe Microsoft has all but reneged on its promise to try and make all Xbox games backward compatible.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Ward reiterated that Microsoft decides BC, not developers.

"We'd absolutely love it if our Burnout games worked on 360," said Ward. "But it's down to what Microsoft wants to do. It controls and decides what games its emulator works with. I've actually asked them four times myself for them to make it happen, but it's really not up to us."

Ward went on to say that a 360 version of Black will not be developed, even though Burnout Revenge is in the process of being ported to Microsoft's next-generation console. Ward did hint at a sequel to Black when he told Eurogamer, "The only time you'll see (the Black franchise) on the Xbox 360 is when we make Black 2 on it in a few years."

Currently, only a handful of the best-selling Xbox games of 2005 are on Microsoft's BC list, even though the company has stated that the "top-selling Xbox titles will run on the 360."

Criterion Says No Black on 360

Alex Ward wants MS to make Black 360 compatible.

On Eurogamer today, Criterion's Alex Ward stated that Xbox 360 owners would not be seeing Black on the system, unless they could get some help from their friends at Microsoft. Black has been developed for the Xbox and the PS2 only.

"The only time you'll see [the BLACK franchise] on the Xbox 360 is when we make BLACK 2 on it in a few years," said Ward. Black isn't the only game that's not backward compatible on Microsoft's Xbox 360. Criterion's Burnout series is currently not, either. And it's not like Ward hasn't asked, saying that he's talked to Microsoft four times to make it happen, but ultimately the decision isn't up to him.

Oh well, the game blew. All you did was shoot, and it was over in 5 hours. Talk about too much hype for nothing.
