Default Hello everyone

Well, not as good at the introductions as I do not usually post on forums so I guess I will start with the facts.

I'd expressed interest in buying myself an xbox 360 and was going to get around to doing so eventually. But as it worked out my parents decided to surprise me and went all out and got me a 360 elite with a two year insurance/warranty plan. (at the Walmart rather than through MS. Is there a difference? :s)

So at the moment I've got my 360 set up, and sitting down stairs on a box so that it remains on the flat surface/does not overheat. Ive set up my basic profile but have not yet set up the xbox live profile since I am not quite yet fond of running an Ethernet cable across the house where it could be tripped upon thus ripping the back out of my poor (AND NEW) 360. Also I'm planning on going out later today and getting ahold of Mass Effect and/or Beautiful Katamari.

Now as for how I got here, I was googling for a 360 community, and also in hopes of finding some care instructions for the system since I had read/heard a lot about the red rings of death and would like to take measures to prevent this as I want to have this system for a long time.

Well, nice to meet everyone!

Welcome to the site! Yes, there is a difference between a Wally World warranty and a MS warranty ... It's called money. One is free ninety free FTW!

Welcome, and no matter what you are covered for 3 years by microsoft for the red rings of death.

To prevent red rings of death keep your 360 in a cool aread (basement is perfect) and keep it away from dust and things that carry dust like rugs. Try to keep your xbox horizontal because from personal experience and other experiences the discs don't get scratched as much as the 360 standing vertical (no matter how cool it looks vertical). Keeping this in mind should keep your 360 healthy for a long time. You should have no problems anyway because the Elite has great coolers, so enjoy the awesome graphics and gameplay and IMO this is a great xbox 360 community.

It's free? I'm confused then :/ What was the warranty information that came in the 360 documentation that had 60 dollar cost?

It mentioned that it was limited time, etc etc.

Ooh, thank you for the information! I'll have to move my 360 then as I had it sitting on top of a box near the carpet since I just unpacked and have been playing around with it as it's not in it's permanent home yet. (It's going back with me when I leave to school) So I guess Ill end up moving it onto the nearby table. That is nice to know that the red rings of death is covered, in that I was worried that I may loose my HD/saved stuff if I did get the red rings of death and had to take my xbox in.

I am also happy to have found this community, since for the most part it appears that there are older/more mature members who frequent these forums, as opposed to the other forums where they individuals kind of scared me away.

Well, talk to you later and thank you again for the information.

You're covered by Microsoft for 3 years if your 360 gets RROD. You just send it in FOR FREE, they'll either fix your current one or give you a completely new one, most occasions it's a fixed up one. Limited time means 3 years for RROD. Doesn't matter what it said in the box, 3 years covered is how it is now and how it will stay.

If you ever do have to send in which I don't think you will as you have the latest model. Microsoft just has you send in the actual 360 unit minus the harddrive, controllers and power cables so you will not lose anything. You just slap your harddrive back on the repaired 360 when it arrives back to you.

It might be worthwhile to see if you can "return" the warranty and set yourself up with a wireless connection to Live. If it can't be done, at least you can exchange your broken 360 at Walmart, rather than sending it off for repair. You really shouldn't have any problems since you are running the new hardware.

Yea, instead of sending your 360 into MS, since you have a warranty at Wal-Mart you can exchange one there for a brand new 360. And if your 360 does break and you're planning on exchangig it at walmart, take your Hard drive off your 360 first and when they give you a new 360 they'll give you an extra hard drive most likely, maybe if they're smarter than i think they'll see the trick...enjoy gaming
