Question Xbox Live or PSN?

I've heard that PSN is lag free, and cost free and can hold lots of people on one server (Resistance). And the 360 has loads of downloadable content, an achievement system and well...live. Bla bla bla bla.

If you have any more details to either please add them. And lastly, which do you prefer more? PSN or Xbox live?

In my short stint with PSN I can say that the 360 is far superior in every way I can think of. Market place navigation, friends list management, player profiles, messaging, etc. Hell, you can't even access the PoS3's XBM while in game. Very lame IMO.

I've never used live but i'm on psn and it's brilliant no lag, the majority of downloads are free as is the online gaming and ps store is also easy to use. So really it's a pretty good system.

Xbox Live all the way. Online gameplay on PSN isn't bad but to me all the things Fiend Karma mentioned are very important. You can't even access your friends list while watching a Blu-Ray movie or playing a PS2 game. Its been over a year now and they still haven't drastically improved PSN. Some of the Multimedia updates are nice but PSN needs to get to the level of Xbox Live as far as functionality.

IDK about SOCOM but when it comes to UT III it's really touch and go. Sometimes my connection to the lobby is almost instantaneous with zero lag while other times I freeze up, lag out, or can't connect to the lobby altogether. Everything I've read indicated it was a server issue which has recently been fixed although minor problems do still exist.

XBL is better, but only on face value.
PSN is free, which is a massive bonus to someone who only plays online the odd time, half the time I feel like im wasting money not using XBL, like joining a GYM and not going.

PSN has themes, gamerpics and all free. XBL has the same but charges.
There is DLC on both, take the COD4 map pack for example, thr equivalent of €11 on XBL, €8 on PSN I think.

There are more games and players on XBL, which is why most say its better, but most of them games are ****, and I dont play like Halo3 and Gears, and most of the players are annoying yank kids, you of course get brats on PSN aswell, but its mainly an older market, and alot more european ratio then XBL.

Ive witnessed lag on lots of XBL games, and even a bit on PSN so I cant say which is better. The servers do tend to be better on PSN, as there are no dedicated servers on XBL, but they both have down time. XBL was gone for like a month over crimbo, and PSN seems to go down for an evening every time a big game comes out.

They both have a long way to go, but I think PSN is better value and suits me better.

I'm a big fan of Xbox Live, but I have yet to try PSN at my friends house this week. I'll let you guys know the differences I see playing PSN for the first time (being an xbox live player).

I read the thread title and started chuckling uncontrollably.

It's like "Dudz which is bettzor teh premiom system or corezord?"
or "R U gon to get sliver or gold?"

The only thing PS3 has is servers.

You conveniently forgot that you can't invite friends to games with PSN, you have to back all the way out of your game to read messages, and even team-oriented games are mostly silent as mic owners are in the minority. Because those who do own mics are using a variety of types, you hear a wide disparity in quality. Live's inexpensive, standardize headset is there for a reason.

I hope PSN gets better and pushes Live to a free service, but Live is less than $4 a month as it is. It's really not a big deal. That same $4 won't buy you a gallon of gas, a six pack of beer or a McD's happy meal. Chump change.

As of today I have a new reason to favor Live....Shane's on PSN.

I'm on both, run for the hills.

I'll give you the mic thing alright, it is nice not hearing preteens screaming cursing and singing like XBL, but its a bit to quiet.

and XBL is about €55 here, same price of a game, you may say its worth it but i think with the prices games are as it is, its a joke to ask for more to use what is 'included' in the game itself.

if XBL got multi-chat then I would favour it, but at the moment its just not far enough ahead to boast about.

The problem with me is I get bored of games quickly, the main games I played on XBL in the last 12 months, were PES '08, halo3 and COD4.

I whored Halo3 the week it came out, COd4 around crimbo holidays when I got the time, and PES for several weeks in late autumn early winter.
Now you may say I was just unlucky or w/e, but all I know is for half the time I actually had time to play COD over crimbo XBL was severly screwed, and down for long times(why we got undertow) Then with halo3 the week it came out XBL was pretty much overloaded and there was sever lag for everyone and again down time(I remember doing it with TTK that week so its not BS) and PES never worked, that was mainly konamis fault, but it was unplayable and still is online.

Now someone who plays every day all year will tell me that I am biast as i got bad times, but they are the times that I got the time, and the way I play games is whore them when they come out then never play them again, its my way and its fine. BUT from that reasoning I look at XBL and really see a PoS online setup. Im aware XBL had issues because of so many people using it for halo3 and cod4 but that doesnt matter I play €60 for a game then that again for an online service, i expect when i waste 2 hrs on the 360 for it to work, I dont wana have to spend that 2 hrs moaning about it not working and really feeling like im wasting time. just not on.

Thats why even though PSN has major problems and isnt as far ahead as XBL ,when I do use it the odd time its free and it works, so it suits me to the ground.

Depends on the game, Karmz. Some games have better online integration than others. On F1, Resistance and Warhawk, you can invite and read messages from within the game's menus themselves, just not during gameplay. I know it's still Xbox 1 standard, but it's better than seeing Alex naked.

My vote is for XBL of course.

I have many friends with PS3's and when I tell them about the things I can do, they agree that it would be good if teh PS3 could do that as well. I am referring to the guide button, chat in game, etc.

Sure the PS3 will get this eventually, but IMO its 3 years after the fact, we've been enjoying this since Day 1. And who cares about a membership.

In Australia, its $90 AUD. SOmetimes stores discount it to $60, and recently at a Target sale, they were a mere half price at $45. Thats why I am a member on XBL till 2010!

So I dont mind, and your forgetting they include a arcade game, plus 200 MS points and a headset in the pack. Well at least thats what we get here.

Online may not be such a problem on PS3, but add another 10 million users to it and we'll see if it copes. XBL has had 6 to 8 years since XB1 launched to develop and work at it. How can one expect PISN network to even compete.

And you think home wont be sucking in the bandwith once you start uploading your virtual worlds etc. Lets see how PISN copes with that one.

As far as I am concerned, I have no issues paying for XBL, cause I've enjoyed every minute online since I got my 360. Oh and Shane, there is a mute button for annoying kids, or, you could just leave off your headset alltogether. Its your choice.

1000 percent prefer xbl over psn. i like that psn is free and has dedicated servers. but seriously xbl is the ****. i've never had any problems, connectivity issues have been minimal.

I can't honestly say that i mind paying 8.95 a month because i don't live in a trashcan. thats less then it costs me to drive to the gamestore and back.

The only thing that annoys me are the amount of kiddies playing games like cod4. but instant mute, private chats eliminate that. plus they make good cannon fodder for 44 - 3 spurts.
