Default Calzaghe Vs Hopkins

Joe Calzaghe will fight Bernard Hopkins in Las Vegas on April 19, his promoters have confirmed.

The undefeated Welshman will have his first fight in the United States at the Thomas & Mack Center and his first at light-heavyweight as he takes on the former middleweight king.

Hopkins reigned for a decade at 160lb before losing twice to Jermain Taylor in 2005, although subsequent victories over Antonio Tarver and Ronald Wright have cemented his place in boxing Hall of Fame.

For Calzaghe, the bout represents a chance to finally prove to the Americans of his his status as a global force in the game, despite victories over Jeff Lacy and a unification win against Mikkel Kessler that were billed as 'career-defining' contests.

The 35-year-old former super-middleweight from Newbridge takes a flawless 44-0 record into the ring and hopes victory over Hopkins will earn him at least one more big payday Stateside.

There will be no title at stake.

Im looking forward to this one.

Although he's 6 years younger than moses and was trained under the tutelage of Sonny Liston, Hopkins still has one of the most powerful right hands in boxing. Should be a good fight but I doubt Joe can take the punishment of a light heavyweight 12 rounder when he's been cleaning up no names in the Super Middle Weight division for years.

Thankfully there is no title on the line. For my sheer love of the sport, I just hope its a good bout. Don't really matter to me who wins. I do however have to agree with you on the outcome being a Hopkins win.

The Executioner has been executed. **** B-Hop ... So much for never "losing to a white boy". Hopkins did well up until the middle of the 5th but after that it was all Calzaghe all night. More power punches landed, more punches landed on Bernard Hopkins than any other fighter ever, and a higher hit percentage made the win decisive. Yes *****-Hop ... The fans are the true judge and we say you lost. Lastly, his insult to the British was uncalled for and made him look like a piss poor loser. Roy Jones? Maybe but for how much I dig Calzaghe he can't beat Pavlik.

Just goes to show that our Joe is hard to hurt. I'm also delighted that prick Hopkins got the smile wiped off his face.

It's already happened :P

I've never been so proud to be Welsh in my life. I've lost all respect for Hopkins, milking that low blow (which never even happened), saying Calzaghe barely hit him (yet he landed more punches than anyone else has in Hopkin's career), just being a general helmet right to the end. His comments before the fight (saying he'll never lose to a white boy, and calling Calzaghe just another european fighter...****) made this victory even sweeter.

Cortez was a ****e referee...again. I swear he has something against British fighters.

I think the fight turned out to be the way everyone knew it would. A punch and hold fight with blatant usage of the head by Hopkins.

Also Cortez was a joke.

I am very happy Calzaghe beat him , although I think the third judges score was a joke no way was Joe that ahead of him.

Chuck Giampa scored the fight 116-111 ... Giampa is the most fair and unbiased judge in all of boxing. Having watched the fight and knowing of Chuck's illustrious career, I would agree 100% with that score. Byrd is just a douche bag.
