Default Rate the last book you read.

Dont see much book discussion on the forums imo , so thought we could get some opinions on books others havent read.

I will start.

The Hobbit - J.R.R Tolkien

I have been a fan of the LOTR films for a while , so i decided it was only right to have a go at reading the series and see if it lived up to the hype that has surround Tolkeins series this generation. So I had to start in the beginning with the Hobbit, I found the book to start of very slow not very engaging to the reader , but I always give a book the chance to go into full flow not cast it aside because it does not intrest me straight away. As i read on i was glad i had this frame of mind with books as it really started open up and flourish into a brilliant book. The character's were rich and full of depth and you could see each of them develop through out , and the epic adventure that the book turns out to be is flawless. The book has some minor problems in it's flow when reading but is not anything major at all.The narrative through out is very good , and I can see why Tolkien is a very respected authour across the board. My final summary is that this book can be slightly on the boring side at times but for 99.9% of the time it is a very well crafted fantasy book , that will link brilliantly into the LOTR books.

8.5/10.

I'm far from finishing it, but I've learned so much about Russia and Communism that I already know what happens in the book. It's Animal Farm, one of the most fantastic books I've ever read.

This book deserves a 10/10.

Default Vittorio The Vampire: by Anne Rice

Since I have been reading so much lately, I will put up a few reviews.
Vittorio The Vampire by Anne Rice, has a mixture of a couple different genres. It focuses on three main themes; Adventure, Romance, and Horror. It's approximately 350 pages in length, and I will be grading it on 4 different criteria, each worth 10 points; Introduction, Body, Conclusion, and Overall Story.
Before I get into the grading, I'll give a little bit of information on the setting of the book. It takes place in Renaissance Italy. Vittorio de Raniari is a 13-16 year old boy that lives with his wealthy family in a castle. He has a brother, a sister, two parents, and a **** load of servants. The story is told by Vittorio de Raniari himself, just as if he were actually speaking to you.

Introduction
The introduction starts off giving a little bit of background information on Vittorio's family. It is fairly long, but necessary and gives a very good visual of the overall picture.Vittorio talks about the recent wars, his love for paintings, his school, his family, and his religion.
Although the introduction was long and painstakingly boring, it was necessary and it's obvious that it's needed when the reader reaches the climax of the story. 6/10

Body
Here, in the body, is where the story really heats up and glues you to the book.
In the night, during dinnertime at the Raniari's castle, the castle is breached by mysterious people. Vittorio's father hides Vittorio, and his brother and sister in an underground passageway beneath the church floor. As they are in hiding they hear everyone in their home being slaughtered, and fires being set to their castle. Suddenly the passage door gets ripped off of the hinges, and Vittorio sees a figure float down the stairs. This figure is that of a pale woman carrying a broad sword. She slices off the heads of Vittorio's brother and sister, kisses Vittorio, and leaves with the rest of her group, leaving Vittorio holding the heads of his siblings, and a vendetta.
Vittorio goes on a quest to fulfill his Vendetta against these vampires to avenge his family. On his quest he gets some very unexpected help....
The body of the book is very entertaining and well written. It kept me glued to the book. 8/10

Conclusion
The conclusion is well balanced, and answers the questions that the reader asks frequently throughout the book. It has some unexpected decisions and events, keeping the reader engulfed. 7/10

Overall
The overall story of Vittorio The Vampire is well balanced, entertaining, and keeps the reader reading. 8/10

If you do read Vittorio The Vampire and end up liking it, Anne Rice has dozens more books of the same magnitude.
Side Notes: There is lots and lots of blood, and quite a bit of sex.
He should have killed the *****.

Splinter Cell 7/10. Wasn't too well written but it kept me sucked in.

Angelmass, Timothy Zahn
I like everything I've ever read by Zahn, and this is no exception so far (3/5s though, I've been trying to slow down the past few days, because I haven't read science fiction this high quality in a while). It has a lot of different threads that are carefully weaved together against a well formed Scifi premise.

Rating pending. Expect it to be higher than a crocodile and slightly lower than a cloud.

Angelmass makes fortunz feel _____

Zahn does write some good stuff. he wrote the first star wars trilogy after return of the jedi back in, what, 96? those books were pretty well done, indeed.

He's punched out several more Star Wars books since then. I recommend Vision of the Future and Spectre of the Past. More Thrawn. There's a prequel to the Thrawn storyline (outbound flight), but I can't really recommend it, and there's another book that's post-Thrawn that I haven't read yet.

I did read those other 2 books, but i was unaware of the prequel and the, um, postquel books. i might have to check them out. i am part way through vector prime...not sure if i like the new jedi series, or whatever those new series are called.
