Posts: 5,352 | Bottom line, it's a legitimate ****ing thread! I cannot begin to cite all the movies which were promised to be works or pure cinematic mastery which after viewing, I walked away feeling 2 hours of my life had just been stolen. Personally, I think every DC / Marvel movie was a complete disappointment save the Original Batman with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson. From Spiderman to The Fantastic Four, I thought all of them were **** bombs. |

Some of this movies are not bad but not good either. | Saving Private Ryan overated??? wow you sir have horrible taste in movies that was a terrific movie along with Shindlers List.....Juno I can agree...
one I would have to say would have to be Cloverfield...that movie was horrible and only an hour and ten minutes long..

Shawshank redemption, American Beauty, legend of 1900, trainspotting, a clockwork orange, planet of the apes(original), the godfather, magnolia, the prestige, insomnia, batman begins, memento(yes, Christopher Nolan is god), casino, goodfellas, donny darko, pulp fiction, reservoir dogs, the fountain, office space, the crow, ben hur, boggie nights, american history x, my left foot, full metal jacket, primal fear, apocalypse now, terminator(2) and some others. That's what I think it's not overrated.

Posts: 1,282 | I have to disagree with the Godfather being overated, i found that had an awesome story line and some brilliant actors. The second one was also very good as that showed how the Corleone family was formed, i will admit that the third one wasn't particulary interesting but the story had to be finished. I also disagree with Saving Private Ryan being overated words can't describe how well put together that film was and again it had some awesome actors. |

Posts: 269 | This thread is pathetic, I saw the opening post and thought maybe some of you could have given this guy a grilling for his awfully elitist statements with no backing or anything.
How you can dispell No Country For Old Men as an overrated movie. Seriously, you didn't back it up at all, I think you're just pissed that you can't handle a good movie and instead of sounding like the true dick you are you slap and overrated on it thinking "if I call it overrated then yeah I win" no, you don't
Asshole, it's people like you who are ruining our industry.
Overrated films?
I'm surprised you didn't say schindlers list, oh wait, YOU DID!
Absolutely shocking.

Posts: 919 | Dog Day Afternoon - it was decent but just not as good as a lot of people say just because Pacino is the lead
Heat - i liked this movie. but again, some people want to praise it as elite just because De Niro and Pacino are in it. i thought the story/plot line could have used more filling
Godfather - Peter Griffin is right. it insists upon itself.
Raging Bull - i just didn't get this. is it a movie? is it a documentary? what's happening? it felt like watching random clips from the History Channel without the context or dramatization thrown in.
i swear i love De Niro and Pacino as much as anyone. and i thought they were great in each of these movies, but each of these films just felt like they were missing something when everyone wants to give each 5 stars.

Posts: 4,812 | yeah i thought heat was overrated too, it was good but people love it way too much. and the godfather is in no way, shape or form overrated...how can you overrate the best film ever made?
scarface is overrated, it's a grade A film for sure. but jesus every time i watch cribs the famous people are like "yeah well i got an elevator in my house, got a 900" 1,000,000,000p HDTV and i got a speaker system that causes earthquakes....BUT I ALSO GOT SCARFACE ON DVD DAWWWWG!!! YEAH MO****A!! SCARFACE!! YA DIG!?!?!?!"
i'd rather have the elevator, tv and speaker system...but suit yourself

Posts: 919 | this is because Scarface is the official gangsta card. it's issued with every hip hop/rap contract. just to avoid the awkward "where's your Scarface DVD? you are a rapper, right? weren't you issued one?"

Posts: 3,229 | For me, over-rated films include:
The Godfather -- Maybe it's because I don't find the gang culture at all interesting or that this film has been touted everywhere I look
Anchorman -- It has one or two funny moments but that's it. Will Ferrell is a prick too, he can only play one role
I am legend -- self explanatory
I can't think of others off the top of my head but I have seem some real disappointments over the years. |
