Goodfellas FTW. I thought we weren't allowed to add new movies for consideration.
You can add new movies, just not right after you added ones. Like don't name 2 movies then post immediately after that and list two more. I don't want this thread Fieldzy'd

Yes, and it's not merely about your opinions, either. For instance, Predator is rife bad acting and an entirely predictable plot. If you're going to recommend an Arnold movie, why not T2, which was the first to make CGI mainstream, and was made to much better standards? Do I watch these movies? Yes. I own Highlander, and I have a copy of Predator that has been MIA for years. When you're on your death bed, I'll put on The Warriors for you, but for anyone else, I'd recommend Schindler's List, Planet of the Apes (original version), Blood Diamond, or scores and scores of other films that demonstrate quality in cinema.
Edit: It's much like saying a game is worth renting, but not buying. Its good entertainment, but not the epitome of quality.
Hmmmm you OWN these movies but they are not must see? Why would you own them if you didn't want to watch them again and again? Planet of the Apes? Let's add Pootie-Tang while we're at it!
Since there are only a hundred movies in the universe worth watching that is.
That must make movie time at your place a real treat.
I'm not sure why you can't draw a distinction between low-budget, poorly acted B-movies, and genuine quality cinematic features that fall into the "MUST see" category. Frankly, we're off topic and I'm tired of talking about with you, so whatever. You win, Predator is a cinematic achievement of epic proportions, was more revolutionary than Citizen Kane, had a better plot twist than The Crying Game, and featured better acting than any DeNiro movie you can name! Anyone that doesn't think its a MUST SEE is a complete moron, and not entitled to an opinion.
the departed
the godfather parts 1 & 2
the warriors
saving private ryan
and schindler's list
i would also like to add scarface and heat
P.S. predator is by NO means a classic or a must-see imo
I updated the list of classics. Also I approve of Scarface and Heat and vote for them.
The list of approved movies is now:
Goodfellas: 2 votes
Star Wars Episode 3: 1 vote
Star Wars Episode 4: 2 votes
Star Wars Episode 5: 2 votes
Star Wars Episode 6: 1 vote
Heat: 1 vote
Scarface: 1 vote

They got the needed 3 votes to be added to the list of classics.
The process is someone names a movie they think is a classic (like when you said Scarface and Heat), then it has to be approved or voted for 3 times by 3 different people. Once that happens it is added to the list of classics (which is located at the start of the thread).

Again, I'm done discussing these movies...it's off topic, and its an argument that can't be won. I didn't read beyond "Originally Posted by friedkarma ", so let it go.
Seriously, Bionic, stop hijacking my thread with bull**** that no one cares about. Use the thread for its original reasons. I'm about to delete your posts.

Also I approve of American History X as well. I updated the classics list now again on the first page. American History X and Goodfellas now added to it.
Here's the movies that are being or not being approved for the list of classics:
Requiem for a Dream: no votes of approval (this is blasphemy btw)
Memento: no votes of approval
Mallrats:1 vote
Clerks: 1 vote
Pootie Tang: no votes (please stay that way)
LOTR trilogy: 1 vote
Indiana Jones trilogy: no votes
Remember, someone names a movie, then 3 people have to vote in approval of it to be a considered a classic.

the point of this thread isnt discussion, the point is to list and vote for movies that you feel are must-sees. not to argue with someone for thinking that your choice isn't a must see
and to answer your question who put him in charge...i believe it was matt, the owner of the site
