Posts: 525 | PSP or DS? Alright, here's the deal. I'm debating between buying a DS or a PSP as a 17th birthday present for my cousin. He's a bit more of a casual gamer than me, so do I buy him the DS, with "non-games" and such to pull him in, maybe even convince to go a step up from casual gamer, or do I get him the PSP, with it's sleek looks and "portable console" approach. Help Plz
Note: Money's not an issue.

Posts: 177 | From an owner of a PSP, hands DOWN a PSP, just make sure you buy him a memory card, it comes with a 30mb one, but you may want to get a bigger one if he wants to save movies, music, and pictures on it.
The PSP also has an internet browser on it, he may like that...
The only objection you may have are the games...there really arn't that many, but your best bet is the PSP, HUGE screen compared to the DS.
NOTE: this DS is very kiddish, if he is 17, I don't think he would like a DS, plus being 17 makes him old enough to buy GTA: LS for the PSP |

Plus, I'm left handed.
Another point, the PSP interface is waaay better, not to mention it can funtion as a portable media device.
Again..that little screen...
Oh well, do whatever you want to do, it looks like I'm out numbered, wich is fine, the DS is a great system, but I though that I would add my 2 cents.
Whatever you pick, he'll probabley be happy anyway. |

For one i dont think you can connect your ds to your router like you can with the PSP to play people anywhere. The only thing the ds has in online (i forget what its called) is the online where you play against people around you. The PSP also has this feature. Ive played both and the Sony beat Nintendo at their own game.

It has a 3d graphics card which allows dvd quality movie playback superior to that of the psp. It has the 3d acclerater quite good for some games which use it and it has more emulaters than the psp. It has wifi and bluetooth and a much better browser. It has a beatiful vga screen i can see in direct sunlight. and countless other things. So with that and my ds in my pocket it makes me do this |

Posts: 101 | I would have a ds hands down, but then it depends what else your 17 year old cousin has - if he has an MP3 player, then thats one score down for the PSP, if he doesnt, he can get a games machine and mp3 in one, which might be a good thing. I cant imagine watching a full film on the psp, I think Id have eye strain, but thats just me.
I dont think the ds is kiddy-ish, it is gimmicky but in a good way. It has very good online games and capability. Overall its my choice. |

DS doesn't even have online yet from what I know, I mean how long are they waiting to actually use it. PSP already has many online titles. So you can't really pick either for online. |

Plus it can't play games
Plus,
The PSP still has a better screen
PLUS,
The PSP internet browser knocks any other handheld browser's socks off, I have a PDA, the internet browser sucks. |

WHat makes it childish?
The fact that it looks like a fisher price toy and all my little cousins can't stop bragging about thiers...
Oh well, looks like he's going to get the DS anyway...

I'm a Nintendo fan by the way.
