Default More Reasons to be VERY CAREFUL if you shop at GAMESTOP.

We bought a ''Refurbished'' and ''Guaranteed'' Original Xbox for our daughters this Christmas, My wife bought it the day after Thanksgiving also she bought the 1 year warranty coverage plan for an extra $20 since it was not a NEW item. The Xbox sat all wrapped up in our closet until yesterday (past the 30 day coverage) when they opened it but it was running really rough for them not reading discs etc.
I checked it out and found that it was getting all kinds of errors reading discs and refusing to even power up half the time.

My wife took it back to Gamestop today to get a replacement and discovered that DISPITE the box saying REFURBISHED, CLEANED, TESTED, GUARANTEED. that it is in fact NOT guarateed to work, they only allow you 30 days to return it if it is not working. Also the 1 year Warranty was not a real warranty for 1 year., it is only a 1 time use warranty meaning that if the ''refurbished'' console breaks they will fix/replace it only one single time thus voiding the remaining time under warranty coverage....

My wife went all pissed off on the manager when he started telling her that they would not do anything for her except replace it once making the warranty void.. he put up a minor fight but then he backed down and replaced the Xbox, under the 30 day guarantee and left the 1 year coverage in place. Luckily the replacement is running well so my kids should have lots of Xbox fun..

I just thought I would toss this out here as further evidence that GAMESTOP is NOT IN ANY WAY friendly to gamers and only seeks to TAKE your money hand over fist even if it means that they have to lie to do it and by offering Misleading and outright lie based ''guarantees/warranties''

Just be smart and don't use gamestop anymore than you have to....

Gamestop clearly sucks upon the balls of lameness, at your expense

It's a replacement warranty, not a manufacturer's warranty. Try reading what you're buying next time because all of this is clearly spelled out. Deflecting blame because you didn't make an informed purchase decision? I think so.

Buying ANYTHING from Gamestop is an uninformed purchase decision.

Well, unfortunately all retailers are going to give you this. I have noticed walmart will take back anything without a receipt years later.

I hate shopping at Wal-mart but they will take anything back. I buy stuff from other places and if something breaks, I just swap it at Wal-mart.

I was not deflecting nay kind of blame at all. just shining a light on the facts. In fact at thwe time of purchase the salesperson fuzzed over the facts that it was a 1 shot replacement warranty.... the paperwork only says Warranty and using the term warranty implies a term of coverage, not just a "one time use" kind of insurance....

And WHOA karma is defending gamestop now? I smell a turncoat!!! Prepare the Gallows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No sir, I'm defending common sense. 1) The warranty details are completely spelled out for you in writing. 2) It's identical to any other retail replacement warranty sold at P.O.P. regardless of the store or commodity.

I agree that you should have some leverage since it was purchased as a gift, and therefore not opened for 30 days. Singling out one retailer because you didn't read or ask questions and for doing the exact same thing all retailers do is typical of the asinine and immature banter we get in these forums. It's people like that that spill coffee on themselves then sue McDonalds.

I just came across this article on the consumerist, "28 Confessions Of A GameStop Shift Supervisor". Good read.
