water is not the byproduct fried, it is the fuel. The byproduct is O2, or oxygen.

they use electricity to seperate the hydrogen from the oxygen in water, and then use the hydrogen to make electricity for the car to run on. the oxygen is expelled.
so it will use up tons of fresh water from the drinking supply. Also, since plants expell oxygen as a waste product, would all this extra O2 being supplied strangle the plants?? Just food for thought.

Heh, heat as a by-product isn't causing any global warming. Hell, ICEs produce a hell of a lot more heat than electrolysis (the way the hydrogen is combined with the water to produce electricity). There are a number of ways these technologies can be implemented but the number 1 problem at the moment is hydrogen storage. Hydrogen doesn't have as high a specific calorific value as any of the heavy fuels (petrol, diesel, even methane) so they have to either compress it under pressure or cool it to freezing point. The problem with this however is that even with modern insulation techniques, the hydrogen inside the cell is still heated by the outside atmosphere by 50% in a relatively short space of time.

Another possible technology is existing electric cars but using nanobattery tech. The way this works is that the graphite anode inside the Lithium-ion battery isn't particularly dense with lithium so it is replaced with nano silicon fibres...which are far more dense with lithium. This will allow a much higher specific output for the battery, increasing the distance an electric car can travel.

This is your future but it is also my career...good to keep clued up.

i was talking about the lemmings from the GAME lemmings, which is why i grouped them the way i did.
