Not that I know anything about computers. but. I really dislike the os I am using so I decided instead of building a backwards computer that uses windows 3.11 or buying a mac I would get windows 7. I just preordered it from best buy for 49.99 which is about all an os is really worth anyways. it drops in october so I got to wait a little bit.
Vista is not really bad I just do not like it. 7 has some kick ass features if they keep them in. I have been running a beta copy of it on a second harddrive so far so good. no crashes boots fast and I can actually watch tv with my tuner card score. and record like a dvr. score again/ and I can use it in 64 bit mode and use my printer that is a definate bonus.
so all in all windows 7 in a nut shell is a step in the right direction.

yeah i don't like vista but i'm stuck with it as it's a massive pain in the arse to rollback to XP. i hope windows 7 is good but i don't really want to mess around with operating systems and potentially trash my computer, so i guess i'm just gonna have to wait until i buy another computer with windows 7 already on it

I don't really want to upgrade my OS.. I'm fine the way it is.. for what I use my computer for, I don't see the need of upgrading or changing my OS.. I have windows XP by the way, is it any good? I hear Vista is bad, but that's just from friends who use it. I'm not really sure myself. I think I wouldn't really care if I had Vista.. oh well.

i'm so ready for not vista. i just (tried) formatted my harddrive. whatta *****. f'ing MS keeps that dos prompt under lock and key. however, i just put linux mint on it. that'll teach MS to put out sh*tty crappy crap that costs to damn much and f's up everything and keeps denying me access to things when it's my own damn computer! yeah. take that.

well hedaikes if you plan on using new technology like multi core processors I would recomend updating eventually. xp is a solid os but it is very dated.
and vista has issues when you put in a 64 bit os the new os has both on the disc so kudos ya know? 32bit and 64 bit on one disc so you can decide which one you want instead of buying 2 differant discs... I am truly impressed.

I recently built a new PC. I reverted back to XP professional because I despise vista. Its packing a Geforce 9600 512mb, 4GB DDR2, 1TB HardDrive, Quad Core Intel processor, latest Gigabyte mobo and a £100 gaming case. Got it all for around £500 and a 22" monitor for an extra £40. Great deal.
If anyone here reads this and has the patience to build their own PC - do it. Just be scared of static.
Edit: Thinking of buying a Velociraptor 72mb Hard Drive for the speed of it.

I've always wanted to mess around and try and build a computer myself. From what I hear, as long as you read and know somewhat what your doing, then it's not all too difficult and inexpensive compared to buying one with more or less the same stats. I'm not computer savvy at all though so I probably wouldn't know wtf I'm doing. Maybe I'll look into it and see if I can pull it off. When I have time on my hands, I might as well do something constructive, right? There's also a "computer show"(it's like a convention) that happens once a month over here in a fairgrounds type area, I've been once when my brother wanted to buy stuff so he can upgrade his computer. Stuff there is cheaper than usual.. so maybe that's be a good 2nd or 3rd step after I learn WTF I need and shiet.

I'm thinking of ordering it. Maybe I'll wait a bit longer. Maybe wait and see if my family or dad gets a new computer and see if I can split the cost with him.(I know $50 I'm a cheapo :P but $25 saved is $25)
well, i fyou want to pre order it and save money, you should do it soon, because there are suppose to be a limited amount they are releasing at a cheaper price. 50% ain't nuttin to scoff at when it comes to MS crap.

It will be available for retail this coming October 22, 2009 so better act fast on the pre-orders. This July, Windows 7 is already in manufacturing phase.
My school's new computers are vista ready, but our computers teacher refuses to upgrade from xp because she hates vista so much.
and building a computer is easier than you'd think. Its not like you're manufacturing the parts, you just make sure they're all compatible and stick em together.
if you like customizing your computer, but not the building, iBuyPower Custom Gaming Computers - Gaming PC & Gaming Notebooks has very detailed options.
As for Windows 7, I think that it will be a welcome upgrade for windows users, but it wouldn't be a standards setter like XP. But I may be wrong.
