Posts: 8 | New Super Mario brothers Review It has been way too long since a Super Mario Brothers game has been released. Fifteen years to be exact. I had to buy a Nintendo DS Lite to play something that should have been released on the Gamecube. Not that I regret buying a DS. It is one of the best investments in gaming that I could have made, but that is another story to be told at another time.
New Super Mario Brothers is exactly what you would expect from a Super Mario Brothers game, except that the characters are now fully 3D and some new power ups have been added. One of the power ups, the mega mushroom has Mario become as big as the screen to do some major damage to the level. While this is very cool the first time you use it, you will notice after the first world is completly useless. Other new power ups include the mini mushroom, turtle shell, and a new wall jump move. The most usefull power up would be the mini mushroom, which will have Mario finding secret areas, coins, and opening up new worlds. New Super Mario Brothers is a hybrid between Super Mario Brothers 3 and Super Mario World which makes this game play like a classic. This is a very good thing.
The only complaint that I have with the game is that I found it a little too easy. One up mushrooms are everywhere, and I mean everywhere. I finished the game completing every world and defeated the final boss in world eight with ninety two lives remaining. Yes, I said ninety two.
Game time varies depending what type of gamer you are. If you would like to just complete the game, you can finish it in around three to four hours, but you would miss out on two of the games eight worlds. The hardcore gamer who has to open every world and find every large coin in the game will complete the game in about seven to eight hours. A big difference in game time. I fall a little bit in between. I completed every world and found about ninety percent of the coins and finished it in about six hours feeling completly satisfied.
Mario I know you need a vacation, but please don't make us wait fifteen more years before we see you again. Welcome back, Mario. We Missed you.
(8.9) PRESENTATION: The only letdown is that there are too many one up mushrooms. Excellent level design and many secrets to be found.
(9.1) GRAPHICS: Wonderful 2D/3D graphics that were not possible in the 2D days of old.
(9.0) SOUND: Classic Mario, enough said.
(9.9) CONTROL: Precise and very accurate controls. Almost Perfect.
(10) FUNFACTOR: You will smile from the beginning until the end. A must buy for any Mario fan, or anyone with a Nintendo DS.
OVERALL: (9.6) out of 10
This is my personal review. Let me know if you agree. |
