Posts: 3,184 | That comparison article was semi-debunked but the two consoles are relatively equal.
I don't mind the PS3, I like some of it's games (Gran Turismo, F1, WRC) but it's the price that turns me off it. £425 is just too much, I would never pay that for a games console (HD player or not). |

Posts: 841 | I agree the price is a bit outrageous. I think they have priced themselves out of a huge segment of the market. It may also go to show that your typical (or at least their target group) is not "kids" but rather 21-35ish year old young adults. Or at least people with more extra money the the standard. People like me who is 31 and has a fair amount of disposable income will buy it. Your average 14 year old is going to have a very hard time talking his parents into shelling out $600+ for "games". In the end I think that is what will hurt them.
But that has little to do with the system its self. Hardware wise I think it is fine. It has been touted as a gaming system and a Blu-ray DVD player. And it does both fairly well IMO. Software/games is where it is currently lacking. But I strongly believe that will change over time. The 360 did not launch as you see it today. Just as the 360 has "grown" I believe the PS3 will as well. New "2nd generation" games will be developed and the online store/gaming will improve.
The real question is can Sony do it. My personal experience is that MS does a better job getting things done. While Sony tends to be reactive rather then proactive. If they are not to stubborn to take tips from MS successes I think they can pull it off. But there is a lot of work to be done. Especially in the online department. Game wise I think they will be able to, at a minimum, catch up.
In closing I will just say that I have both systems and I enjoy both systems. Each has its pluses and minuses with more pluses going to the 360, at this time. That is why when asked what one I think someone should get, I tell them the 360 without hesitation. In a year I am willing to bet it will not be that easy to answer.
Take care~
PS - I also would like to see this stay civil. Keep in mind each is a good system, neither is "junk" or "crap". And people who pick one over the other do not have to be "morons" or "crazy". It is an argument that can not be won.

Posts: 1,875 | I read all 11 pages, although page 10 is a bibliography, and page 11 was a short, pointless conlusion.
I read through most of the comments as well, and there seem to be a few valid counter-points being brought in by the SDF (Sony Defense Team).
Still, as we all know, it'll come down to the games in the end, and thus far, the 360 is thumping the competition. |

Posts: 575 | I agree with you flyacl. You nailed just about everything on the head. What I want to figure out is how they get it to run so quietly and cool. After 5 hour of leaving the system on, 3 of which were gaming. I put my hand all around it to not feel any heat coming from it, just cool air. Meanwhile my 360 is in the dashboard for 30 minutes and is blowing hot air out the back. Also your right on the 360 growing up. When it first came out, everyone be honest with yourselves, it wasnt that great. Ok games, ok hardware, and online was bare bones. Now look at it. Great freakin games, great hardware, and an online service that will be the basis for just about every online service to come. The 360 still stands as my most played console, then the ps3, then the wii. But dont get me wrong, the Ps3 is one hell of a machine and worth every penny. Yes I said worth every penny. Gaming console, blu-ray player, wireless controller, wifi, and 60 bg hard drive, for 600 is worth it. Crap, I payed almost that the first month I had my 360. Gaming console, dvd player, wireless controller, 400. Plus my wireless adapter, 100 bucks, plus online service, 50 bucks. Wow, a little off track. Great console just needs time like the 360 did. Absolutely no dissapointments for me.

Great post!!! The PS3 will be a great machine - it just needs some time. Sony hasn't failed yet when delivering a console. Some of their statements might be off the wall - but overall the console(s) usually never disappoint. One thing's for sure - if the PS2 is any indication then the PS3 should have one hell of a run.
I haven't picked one up yet because my PS2 (from Launch Day 1!!!) is still running great and there are still so many games we have yet to play (thank god for GameFly). Although I have seen the 60GB @ Target once or twice which was very tempting... but I can wait...
I was luckily enough to walk into a GameStop the day after Christmas and score a Wii (UPS had just delivered a shipment).
Of course the 360 (for the moment) is still my primary gaming console!

i would have to agree that the ps3 may be a great system a few months from now. i was real hesitant about bying one, but i gave in and took the plunge. the system is pretty solid gameplay wise. the online is not really that good. it makes me think that it has been rushed and they (sony) are hoping it will get players by untill they figure out how to make it work. it takes forever to download demos, i was downloading motorstorm for and hour only to have it complete 4% of the download. very poor service imo. the 360 is no doubt the best system. im sure i'll be using the system more later on down the road but right now my 360 is the one that is used the most.

Posts: 166 | The wife just picked one up the other day from Wal-Mart. I will not touch it lol. She likes it she says the movie experience is better on the PS3 but thats about it. She hates the PS3 OS as in no active downloads and Sony's idea of a online service is a joke. She now has her own 360, Wii and the PS3. She's a bigger gamer than me lol. She actually hates the Wii now. She said that sure the motion is cool and all but it doesn't add to the lasting appeal of games. Its more of a feature you think is cool for 15 minutes then after that your done with. Kind of like the Nintendo DS and its touch feature. Yeah she has a DS and PSP too lol. Anyway she says overall 360 is a better system to her. |

Posts: 3,184 | I intend on buying a PS3 when Gran Turismo 5 is launched, which I bet is around Q2 2008. That will be a perfect time as the 20Gb should have had a price drop (if Sony want to stay in the game) and we will have had a winner to the HD media war (all the signs for now are pointing at Blu-ray). |
