I worried i picked the wrong system to get, Don't get me wrong the xbox 360 is going to be great, heck, i paided mine off in June, but after hearing reports form the Tokyo Gaming Show, the 360 didn't even compare to MGS trailer (Not Pre rendered) on ps3, In May after E3 i was hoping that the graphics would get better, and they did but they are still not going to be like the ps3, i a think the ps3 has a leg over the 360 in graphics, and that upsets me, because when i think nex gen a think about amazing graphics that comes right out of the television screen, and i not yet seen that on the 360. i guess be getting a ps3 too.

Hold up man ! What have you seen so far on the PS3 ??? Wait... Lemme answer that ! Demos, Demos, Demos, Demos ... That's all we've seen of PS3 ... Not a single in-game screen ... And that MGS trailer ? One caracter to compute and that's it ! Of course they could burn the whole PS3 hardware to make it run at TGS !! But you have to remember that one game does not rely solely on one on-screen character.. You have graphics,AI, physics, sound, and a whole bunch of other stuff to compute at once , so you can be sure that in the end, the in-game stuff for PS3 will indeed be beautiful, but never be up to par with what they've shown up till now! (unless it's CGI cinematics of course). That's a fact, and has always been concerning Sony. More Emotion Engine anyone ???

At least, we've seen some in-game footage for 360 for some time now, and we have a clear idea of what the FIRST gen of games for 360 will look like : a clear upstep from the past gen, but at least there is no hide and seek behind tech demos! After the first gen of games, there can only be one way: UP !

So I truly doubt you should worry about picking up the "wrong" system... I think there is a bigger probability for a deception from people who actually think PS3 games will look just like the Tech demos that have been shown. At least, with 360, you know how things are REALLY going to look in the beginning...

You are right HD-DVD is 15Gigz.
Blue-Ray though is 25Gigz per layer.

I think that the PS3 will not win this time. It will not flop either. Sony has always overhyped their products a lot. The Ps3 has nothing to really show. All I have seen is pre rendered movies and a "ingame" cutseen. I hear rumors about a "online service that will killl Xbox Live" and I hear nothing about online besides that. The PS3 IMO has nothing amazing that can appeal to gamers and casual gamers. The PS3 may have a next gen format, but it was not even tested. I think this might be a sign of Sony's death as the gaming giant. The 360 has actually shown demos, nice 1st and 3rd party games, and an online service. IMO the PS3 will not be a major sucsess, but it will sell because of the PS fanboys.
(P.S I used to be a Sony fan until my PS2 broke twice)

There's a lot of potential Xbox fans among the PSers, they just need to be properly educated.

I'm not sure if that would do much good... The fanbois have basically taken over. You can pelt them with facts all day and they won't listen.

I don't believe that. Have you seen any of their forums? They're absolutely hectic. They need guidance. Luckily I could lend my professionalism towards them, as could a few others in here.

I have converted fanboys to just getting games for games not consoles. I told them the facts and they want a 360. It was hard to convince the PS fans especially. In the end they just wanted to play next gen games and they saw the 360 had a nice variety of them. It's not hopeless to stop fanboys. I was a fanboy until I read theses fourms. Now I'm happy

Everyone is clearly going to have their own opinion. First up, look at any unbiased website or magazine review and the first thing that they state is that it is impossible to do a direct comparison between the Xbox360 and the PS3 precisely because the architecture is so different between the two, each console appears to be more powerful than the other in some areas but the general consensus from both reviewers and game developers is that they are both very evenly matched and their won't be any noticeable difference in terms of speed or looks between a game running on an Xbox360 or a PS3. It will eventually come down to the preference for the 'exclusive' games on each console (which appear to be less in number than for XBox/Ps2)

Initially the PS3 appears to be the more difficult to develop for, one of the reasons for the release still being a year away, but the Xbox360 initial release games are far from utilising the Xbox360 power, hence CoD2 and Quake 4 being simple ports of the existing PC versions (soon to be released I should say) rather than having been extensively re-coded to take advantage of the Xbox360's power.

I would expect PS3's launch games to be more impressive than some of the Xbox360 launch games, but would expect the games being released on Xbox360 at the time of PS3 launch to match or exceed the PS3 launch games for quality.

And I do wish people would understand the bandwidth issue. The core system bandwidth of the PS3 is higher than the Xbox360, the XBox360 will be able to pass shader instructions through to video memory far quicker than the PS3, but for geometry and texture info, the PS3 may be quicker than Xbox360. Both systems will require different programming techniques to get the best out of them, at the end of the day, it is likely both will result in similar performance

Heck, I live in Canada so the systems cost another 100$ here plus I have a 15% tax rate and I still think it's a great deal. I suppose I could wait a year or two for the price to drop, but I can't wait that long!

Also, if you do some research you'll discover that 300 or even 400 isn't an out of the ordinary launch price for a new console. Most consoles were released for that initial price including the Xbox and Ps2. At least I think so, don't quote me on that. The highest a console was ever released for was 1000$ US and that was several years ago. I saw this chart on price inflation with the consoles, I'll try to find that again, it's really interesting.

As for the PS3 I don't know how much it will be, and I don't know if Sony can afford to sell it with much of a loss. All I know is it will be "expensive" according to Sony, unless they lied again. Considering how the systems will initially start off the same anyways, and the fact the Xbox 360 will be out much longer before the PS3's release you may just be better off getting a 360. In my opinion you should figure out what you really want out of a gaming system and going from there.

I feel your pain Diamond... I visited Niagara Falls and stayed at the Hilton a few weeks ago. Absolutely beautiful place, but I couldn't believe the taxes! If you go out to eat a $40 meal at a nice restaurant, you'll end up paying $55 after the three different taxes!
