ps3 how good?

from what ive read on other websites forums etc,

ps3 is gonna blow all competition away
wich worries me as ive pre-ordered a 360 i own a ps2
ive discussed points put across from this site that the 360 is just as good & people have laughed at that & said this site is biased
ive now got 2nd thoughts as to what to do & were my money should go,
can we have unbiased opinions in this thread,
who can squash my 2nd thoughts?
& reinstall my faith in this product
i do not wish to spend money at launch then when ps3 is released have regrets, i have no experience at all with xbox products, as ive always had playstations, but pre-ordered a 360 cos i fancied a change

I would say you should go with the Xbox 360. It's clearly the machine of prefrence for video game designers. You will also love the change of layout from the PS3. The online interface is completly amazing, and the system can do whatever it wants.

Another thing? Microsoft gives their game developers WHATEVER they want. For example: Money Hats/Canes, a system that can do more then just pay games.

Well, I could drag this out into a 15 page report, but the end result will be that you should pick up a Xbox 360. Just do that, and make your self happy.

I'm in no way a fanboy, I will be getting both system and the REV

as you see i'm new here, pr-ordered my 360 a couple of weeks back
i need all the advice i can get on this console, the way you put it makes it sound like ive done the right thing

Sony is just putting us through their usual grueling hype machine, with pre-rendered videos and screens. The PS3, in my opinon, is going to have an overload of features that the average consumer won't need and it'll be priced too high to win this gen.

Don't believe the hype.

dont get fooled by the sony fanboys. from a hardware point of view the systems are basically equal and while sony is adding features like 6 usb ports and other crud which dont matter to gaming on the ps3 microsoft is putting what developers really need (e.g. fast throughput 512 memory etc..). In fact the xbox 360 might even have a graphical advantage. Also, xbox live will own whatever sony has (if it has anything) and personally i like the xbox 360 games a lot more.

go with the 360 you wont be dissapointed.

the 360 i'm buying is actually for my kids,
i'm a bit worried about the lack of kids games for the launch aswell
so far ive got kameo on the list,but i hope they bring out more children orientated games (i believe they will)
quite like the look of dead rising for myself,

i wont be selling the kids ps2 anyway, i'll put that upstairs for them,

Look, the difference between the games won't be noticeable at all. The Xbox360 will have a more powerful and revolutionary Graphics Chip, while the PS3 should have a more powerful CPU (The Cell). In the end, they will have a very similar power overall.

Said this, why should you go for the x360? Well, many, many reasons:

1. The PS3 is predicted to be considerably more expensive than the x360 (~100 more at least) mainly, for the inclusion of the Blu-Ray Drive. (No effects on games)

2. The x360 will be out earlier, you'll be playing Gears of War and PGR3 for a bit less than a year when the PS3 is out in America and Europe (Sony hasn't announced a worldwide launch).

3. Microsoft's getting a huge developer support this time, unlike what happened with the original Xbox, for being a new console, it took them a while to take off, this time there's gonna be a launch window of ~40 games (before the end of this year) and there are more than 160 games in development and the list is growing. Not only we're gonna have Halo3, but also Perfect Dark Zero (acclaimed prequel to the 9.6+ rated FPS for N64), franchises like Sonic said to go to the x360, Gears of War, a superb looking 3rd person shooter, the most ambicious racing game ever: Project Gotham Racing 3, Winning Eleven Series, Call of Duty 2 in exclusive, Elder Scrolls Oblivion and many more. Also big companies Like Square Enix (Final Fantasy), RockStar (GTA), SEGA and others, developing exclusive games for the x360, and don’t forget the huge japanesse wave of games, like Blue Dragon and Lost Oddysey (with Toriyama from Dragon Ball Z and the creator of Final Fantasy), Enchant Arm, most likely Ninja Gaiden and other yet unveiled games we should see at TGS, stay tuned!!.

4. Xbox-Live's a currently successful online gamming service, wich has proven itself themselves as being an efficient lag-less service, which means a huge improvement in the gamming experience, by sharing with your friends, going into competitions, and a huge world to discover. Sony is new on that and doesn’t certainly have the Networking infrastructure that Microsoft has.

6. This is my personal opinion, but the x360 console and controller's design are ages beyond the PS3's.

7. The games won't suffer a significant increase in cost for the media.

8. XNA gives the developers the ability to create better games in less times, avoiding them the dirty job that kept them from letting their creativity go. Remember that Microsoft's a software company, and they've put all their machinery on creating the Development tools and the absolutely gorgeous console Dashboard, which takes us to the next point:

9. You'll be able to connect your x360 with a PC with Windows Media Center or windows Vista, and stream your media files using your PC hard disc as storage media, and the x360 as a player.

10. Microsoft's being real from the beginning about the games, do NOT expect the PS3 games to look as they looked on the past E3. Those were a bunch of Pre-Rendered CGI mixed with some In-Game graphics. Microsoft's games didn't look as good at E3 for being running on significantly underpowered Alpha machines, however, we've been witnesses of how they were dramatically improved as the Dev Kits Arrived, a good example is Call of Duty 2, which looked like a current PC game at first, and now look just gorgeous.In the other hand, Sony has a track record of overhyping their consoles and then underdelivering features to their consumers. They're doing the exact same this time, but the detail is that, this is Microsoft, not Sega (Dreamcast).

And this is just to start with :P

Be leery of fanbois loyal to Sony. They'll find one detail (Cell processor) and create an argument based soley on that feature (even though it has no proven track record for gaming), despite the fact their GPU will be outdated on launch day, or the bottlenecking bandwidth problem, or the... anyway, you can check the other threads for more arguments.

The PS3 has a lot of potential, but will it ever be utilized enough for a "wow" factor? If the internal architecture does not change, then probably not. At least we know the 360 is user friendly; both for the consumer and for the developer.

Good post Aquanox, although I think they have labeled Gears of War as a 2nd person shooter (over the shoulder view). Interesting, eh?

Yes, it is technically a 2nd person shooter, but given the continous "acting" the characters perform through the game, they've labeled it a 2nd person shooter.
They first conceived the game as a FPS, but they loved their character modeling so much that it was a very important factor for making it a 3rd(or 2nd) person shooter.

Needles to say that I can't wait for the freaking game.

im waiting till the 360 comes with the HD-DVD drives, which might not be till next year, o well it's worth the wait

I think that day may never come, HD-DVD is nearly dead now since it's been pushed back to 2006.

Kepp this in mind about looking at gaming websites, and magazines for there opinions..

Most, if not all, gaming web sites/magazines are very Sony biased, some more than others.

The most obvious is 1up.com..ANY moron who goes to that website can tell they hate the 360 and love the PS3.

However, the website that seems to be pretty even, is ign.com.

Also, about the "Hype Machine"

The all famous cell was "clocked" (Notice quotes) to go at 4MHz...

It has changed to 3.5 then to 3MHz, Sony's lies are slowly being unvieled.
(I also heard somewher that the official speed was 2.6 MHz, but that was at a forum..so probabley not that low...yet.)

You fail to mention the HD-DVD's advantages.

While there are very few, some could be very important.

1. What will the average consumer think of blu-ray? I don't know either, but HD-DVD has "DVD" in it. Possibly generating more sales?

2. Much cheaper to make than blu-ray. It also, obviously, sells much cheaper as well.

I think the PS3 might have an advantage over the 360. Some people say that the PS3's bandwith is too low, but its not, not with the blue ray drive. Even if it was, Sony can still increase it, u know there is still a lot of time for them. But dont get me wrong, i still want an x360 and am going to get one.

Sony has always had a problem with bandwith and the PS3 will be no btter, most likely even worse.
