PS3 - Inventory Levels

Passed by the local Fry's Electronic at lunch today. Saw this pile of orphans looking for a home. If anyone is actually wanting to buy one, and couldn't find one in stock around their area, I would happily help you pick one up for a nominal fee.

theres 87 PS3s at my local bestbuy out of the 90 from the second shipment. everyone knows they suck

Heh, they don't suck, they just aren't catering to the same people that made the PS brand king -- the casual gamers. Casual gamers do not put down +$600 to play video games. If last generation was any indication for this current generation, then the casual gaming society purchases gaming machines once they reach below $200. If that is the case, expect the PS3 to do well sometime after 2009.

2020...hell...they would probably have microchip consoles that connect into your brain by that time.Hopefully I won't be around for that.

You forgot inflation, 200 bucks will by you a game in a few years. The core system will cost 600.

Well I dunno, Sony is losing alot of money here.. So whose to say that they will infact MAKE a PS4?

PS3 is gonna rock. you will see. the 360 will prob end up being pwned by it like the PS2 vs orignal xbox story...

yea, all exept for..
the ps3 didnt come out first with a big head start..
the ps3 doesnt have half the exclusives that made the ps2 popular
the ps3 isnt cheaper than the 360 like the ps2 was cheaper than the xbox
the ps3 doesnt have a price cut any time soon, which is what sold the ps2 alot faster.
the ps3 doesnt have a proven, popular, and easy to use online system... yet..

the ps3 doesnt have nearly the cards the ps2 did. i dont think the ps3 will pown the 360. maybe eventually the wii(in 7 yrs) if they dont get some stuff going for them too, but i doubt they will win this generation. it will be a fun race though.

Good arguments for both consoles I think, as long as the PS3 gets into homes and software sells then the PS3 will make new games, which IMO, is what matters the most. Not who wins.

when you say things like that.. you are forgetting.. that sony is a super mega giant powerhouse company. it may not be as supermegabig as microsoft, but its darn well up there. IF the ps3 never makes a huge dent in the market, expect them to rethink, refocus, and come out swinging for the fences with the ps4.
Problem with being on top all the time is, you only see the clouds, and you forget that if you look down, its the little people that are holding you up. Any well executed idea by a rival company will take those people from you and you end up arse first on the ground.

lesson: treat your people well, or they will migrate elsewhere..

You don't need to wait for PS4 for the PS3 to be big or for Sony to start trying to paste the pavement with 360's. Look, as was stated earlier, Sony is a huge company but more importantly, it is a marketing machine just like MS. What you are slowly beginning to see is that they are giong to sell it as if it should be part of your life (maybe replace your life like with "Home"). People forget PS2 was also not an immediate success. It took about a year. The problem is that MS/XBox always shoots themselves in the foot. I think MS learned its lessons after the first console and is taking a new approach, which is come out faster, cheaper, and let there be more choices in games. The first console had better graphics than PS2 hands down and the 360 developers and games show that they still have a leg up in that department (you can clearly see it in Madden and the new NBA Street as shown on gametrailers). But the games were boring...except Halo series of course. What 360 has a leg up on, but nobody knows unless they own one, is the potential for a master home integration tool (download movies/TV shows, media streaming of videos and photos, music, etc.). I don't see them telling anyone and that is bad. Sony is going to make the general audience believe that they are the Home system and MS is going to lose out because Sony is going to catch up. The PS2 was not for casual gamers, they were for gamers. The old XBOX was for techies who liked to juice up their console (neon lights,skins,mods and downloads and patches for media streaming). It was like open code for everyone and that was cool. Sony always has that tech protection and you couldn't do that with the PS2. So hopefully the 360 marketing team wakes up before it's too late.

Sony damned if they do damned if they dont. They get slated for not producing enough and now they get slated for producing more than enough. anyone researched how many 360 machines are on the shelf? Didnt think so. get over it fanboy.

easy, the difference is, microsoft isnt making silly statements about there being a lack of supply, which is why they are not selling.. and then a statement later saying that they have enough supply and thats why they are on the shelves, and it just looks like they are not selling.

its all just funny to me

Quick! Hurry! I just passed by again today, and it looks like they've already sold TWO since last Friday! Sony again apologizes (to the visually impaired) for not keeping up their inventory levels inline with the overwhelming demand, and hopes reverse pyschology works on you.
