Default Portable Xbox mockups (Xbox Velocity)

Quote:
Our Inside Look at the Coolest Gear that No One Is Making
Each month, Mobile creates a dream gadget that should exist, but which infuriatingly does not. This month: A portable version of the Xbox!

Microsoft hasn't even made a peep about a portable version of its Xbox, so we took it upon ourselves to design one for them. We call it the Xbox Velocity, connoting the speed of its games and the newfound mobility of the user. Don't look for it on store shelves starting in 2007, when it won't sell for $249.

Details

To protect its delicate, ultrabright display, the screen flips up like the Nintendo DS's. But the Velocity offers a PSP-size viewing area by expanding the screen to span nearly the entire base.

The flip-screen means that the controls are covered when not in use. When the lid is closed, the two analog thumbsticks recess into the base.

A standard SD slot allows for unlimited data storage. Wi-Fi is also included.

The center portion of the control panel doubles as a touchpad. Movies can be controlled with the lower portion, while volume can be adjusted by sliding a finger along the arcs on the side of the touchpad.

The Velocity jettisons the bulky disc caddies of the PSP. Games are included on bare optical discs coated with a scratch-resistant material.

Note: R&D is produced with no involvement from any company featured on these pages. All gadgets shown are 100-percent hypothetical and speculative. They do not exist, and as far as we know they will never exist. But it's fun to dream about them.
I wouldn't mind if someone gives me this one for xmas

I don't think we'll see a portable xbox for awhile. That's just another crowded market for Microsoft will try to impose on, but not just yet.

Maybe they'll make their own disc, sorta like the UMD, and then they'll release more movies than games, wow, the PSP had so much potention, did it ever fail, I wonder if the PS3 will sorta like the PSP.

Lateley, I've been dreaming of something like this. But, I wont buy it after spending 400 on my 360. I'm not a big fan of portable systems anyway.

Analysts are prdicting late in the 360's life, MS is going to HAVE to make a portable because Sony and Nin. will already have thier's established.

They'd be wise to start working on it now, Nintendo and Sony are already a couple of steps ahead of them.

Perhaps at E3 2007 we'll hear something.

I doubt I'd buy it, honestly I don't think that the portable market needs any more players, or that MS would fare particularly well.

would be really cool if they did release one with the ability to play your xbox games as now, no new medium, I don't see why they couldn't release it.
