Actually when you get banned first they ban the EEPROM, which is the xbox serial for the HDD. But you can buy someones EEPROM and use that instead. Once they find out you did that they ban your IP for good. But when your first banned you can play Custom Games, after the IP has been banned say goodbye to online Halo 2 playing period. Me and my friends modded (only in system link). But thats how they do it. And no they can't take your CC info, the Live information is on various servers. But if you bridge you can get the persons IP and hack their computer for it. But thats different from getting it off of live.

Most ISP's don't supply static IP's so banning an IP address will only work until your ISP changes it. Mine rolls every week or two. So I also think banning is based on the machines internal serial # and your gamertag.

Well the internal serial gets banned. But the GT doesn't my friend can still get on other peoples xboxs, but hes been banned so much he cant get on his on xbox.

Actually you can get your gammer tag banned. This usually only happens if you get yourself permanently banned. This has happened to a friend of mine and it started with just a temporary ban and went from there.
