Default Software Updates On The PS3

Does anyone know of a website that tells you when the next software update is? I ask because you can download the upgrade using a PC and then save the download on to a memory stick, you then plug that in to your ps3 and update it from there, easy isn't it?

i don't know of any sites that do that axeman...and wouldn't it be easier to just auto-download them straight to your ps3? like a dashboard update

Provided you manually check and see if there's an update available, then manually d/l and install the update. LAME Sony!

i don't have a ps3, but you can do the same thing with your psp. download the update to the pc, and then update it via usb cable. well, not the same, but similar.
but there was nothing to ever notify you an update is available until you check for updates. on the psp it doesn't even autodownload, you have to actually check (or if you get a new game with the newest update it will do it).

PS3 does not perform auto-downloads it only tells you there avaliable, the trouble is when i download the update for the ps3 it takes nearly an hour just to download it, then another 15mins to install it. My plan was to find a website that told me when the update was there. I would then download it using my work computer, save it to a hard drive, take it home and then all i would have to do then was install it saving a hour.

couldn't you save it to a usb flash drive, just thinking that would be easier then an external HDD? why does it take so long to download an update for the ps3?

The HDD was an example of what i could save it to, but yes a Memory Stick would be easier. I have no idea why a download takes so long, the last one enabled blu-ray 2.0 format to be playable on the console it also allows DIVX movies larger than 2gb to be played. So maybe it's because theres so much **** in the updates.

They are only launched on Thursdays. Everything on PSN is updated on a Thursday (including Store updates). Other than that, I dunno.

PSN store updates are every Thursday (there's a hiatus right now so the new PSN store can be implemented) and the firmware updates are just whenever they are ready.

Agreed. The updates are slow as hell, and I frequently get disconnected from PSN in the process. Game updates are horrible. It took me at least 20 attempts to patch Warhawk.

QFT, it took almost 30 attempts to get the update for GT5P and as for being disconnected from PSN don't get me started. Sony keep telling us how wonderful the ps3 is so when we fall for it and buy it they kick us off the network because it's too full so surely they must have thought about that before they realeased the console. I don't have LIVE a the moment but i'm pretty sure this doesn't happen to LIVE members.

LIVE is plauged with problems too. Both parties need to pull their finger out.

Dude, I get disconnected CONSTANTLY. I've got the damn error message code memorized. I know its not my **** because my 360, PC and laptop have a seemless connection to the internet.

PSN...you get what you pay for.

Sony ought to solve this problem otherwise everyones gonna switch the 360.

It's like a catch 22, although Sony has free online gaming you can never get on it to appreciate it.
