So for those of us that installed 2.40 with no problems does this mean we run on the 2.36v until Sony get their arses in gear? Also what does the term 'bricked' mean?

it's slang for turning a console into a useless 'brick' i think - us older guys would have said paperweighted - but it doesn't quite roll of the tongue the same.

Essentially - the update completely locks the OS and the console won't even turn on properly.

It happened during an X360 update a year ago iirc.

Yeah Axeman it's just one of those random things that can happen anytime you have to install an update. perhaps they left out some tiny bit of info that went unnoticed in testing but then once it go mainstream installing on tens of thousands of systems they start seeing a pattern of disabled systems because they overlooked something and the update disables the Operating System Software, it has happened in the past for Xbox 360 update as well, so It's not surprising that PS3 is having it happen too.

Sony have done a Microsoft!

They still got a massive distance to go before they can compete with the 360 failure rate tho. Its a race!

Mine is ok since update (touch wood).

If it were going to freeze it would have happened already, stop worrying.
