Posts: 206 | PS3 Firmware 2.40 Released This new firmware is awesome. At any time I can message friends now, plus there are trophies and "gamercards" for each player. There is also custom soundtrack compatibility. Friend lists have been expanded to 100 slots. What am I paying for LIVE for?

Posts: 206 | Really? How so? Is it better just because you are paying for it? Virtually everything you can do on LIVE dashboard wise, I can do in the XMB.

there are plenty of free download themes for the 360. and i download them all, cause they are free. especially the indiana jones one and the dr. pepper one. free, and cool. mmmm. dr. pepper.
and pepper, you're just a ps3 fanboy. shup. |

Posts: 206 | PS3 has over 1,000 free themes and can be user-created. Also, the amount of FREE DLC is astounding really.

Granted this was back on PS2 a few years ago and I'm sure much has changed.

Posts: 206 | It IS available during every game, and it takes roughly 4 seconds to load all the icons up. It's a very good dashboard competitor and really shows how simple and cheap 360's dashboard features are. The load times are fine.
Also, at least PS3 HAS a browser installed.

Posts: 456 | if my dad wasn't sleeping downstairs id go download it now. but no it's not better yet only one game so far supports trophies on day one and also, you can't play music in any game and it has to be on the harddrive. also, now do you finally have a uniformed friends list or are you still stuck using the friends list built into online games like resistance and unreal tournament? also, there are no cross game invites but who cares? i will never accept and invite for a game other than the one im playing |

Posts: 206 | Yes there is one unified friendslist. When you hit X on a friends name their "gamercard" comes up that shows you their trophies, their bio, etc. It's very sleek looking.

Posts: 206 | I honestly have not checked but I know the XMB can be brought up in any game. I played Tekken 5, Rainbow Six and DBz Burst Limit and I could view friend lists/gamercards and send messages on all 3. It's universal for sending messages/comparing trophies.

Cross-game invites?
In-game AND cross-game chat?
Voice messages?
Universal friends list? (yes that STILL isn't part of PSN yet)
Universal trophies?
2.40 is a good start, and it makes things easier but it is by no means the killer of XBL. Sony has still got a lot of catching up to do. I like it but it's not THAT big of an update. |

Posts: 3,238 | The omission that hurts me the most: no music streaming and a lack of a Sony mandate to support custom soundtracks. Also, you can't browse the web or adjust video settings in-game, so how about a selective in-game XMB. A step in the right direction (finally!), but it still won't hold a candle to Live.
