Xbox-Scene News: Sony's Peter Dille: MS Paid to get FF XIII, Won't Drive Console Sales
Man - is it me or does it seem like Sony executives spend WAY too much time trash-talking Microsoft these days?
Anyways - seems that this panty waste had a lot to say before the 'ole brain kicked in - so I'm cut to copy-pasta and comment because it's too good to miss.

Peter Dille, Vice President, Sony Computer Entertainment of America :What you have with "Final Fantasy XIII" is a lot like what they've paid for with "GTA." It's not an exclusive on their platform. It's now a cross-platform game.
Hmmm...kindof like the time Sony bought Warner to defect from HDDVD to BluRay? Does that sound familiar, Peter? ...and let us not forget that the X360 was the lead platform for GTA for the first time in it's history! - NOT because Microsoft paid them - but because your devkit was utter crap!

Sand I think if you look at how "GTA" behaved in the marketplace and how it drove -- or didn't drive -- either console, that's what I'm talking about. Consumers responded to "GTA" on the PS3 just as they did on the 360.
Ummm...didn't X360's version outperform PS3's version of GTA4 by 2:1? Something to do with DLC - yeah sure - but are you forgetting the Gamespy incident? I still don't hear much noise about people playing GTA4 online with PS3, do you?

And it becomes a bit of a jump ball. But it didn't rise the tide for them. And I think if you fast forward to when "Final Fantasy XIII" comes out I think you're going to have millions of people who grew up playing "Final Fantasy" on the PlayStation playing it on a PlayStation 3.
Funny - I seem to recall playing FF on Nintendo long before Playstation came around. Anyways - what's your point? FF should be exclusive to Playstation out of loyalty? Going on your logic - FF would never have left Nintendo's envelope in the first place. So why is it any more of a Playstation game than anyone else?

They spent a lot of money, I'm sure, to get "Final Fantasy" onto the 360 but at the end of the day it's on our platform as well.
...and would you care to tell us how much you're offering studios to use the PS3 as the lead development console? Because we KNOW there HAS to be money involved for that to happen, don't we? Guess it's lucky you couldn't get your in-house GPU working, because if it weren't for Nvidia and the DirectX standard - you guys would be out of a job by now. BTW - how's Phyre working out for you guys? Don't seem to hear much anymore.

Which is why we focus on, "Let's look at what happens when you have "Metal Gear Solid" on your platform ... when the NPD numbers come out ... I think you'll see the value of what a real exclusive title does and how it raised the bar for PS3 versus 360. |
Sure - it's not like Halo 3 doubled X360 console sales or more than doubled MGS4 unit sales...
Oh wait - it DID!
Mr. Dille - sit down.
