so it would make me question anyway as to why they would still charge for xbox live? heck, i'd even take a price drop!

my only guess is that they know we will pay. Its hard to make a ceo want to cut out a lot of revenue just to make us customers happy. M$ > you.

That could change - if XNA kicks in supplementary revenue, you never know.
Plus - if their back's to the wall - Microsoft will change course if need be.

LIVE now free for Games for Windows - Xbox Lives Major Nelson

Sometimes I wonder if people at Microsoft actually think things through - although I'm glad this announcement happened.

It was recently revealed by Major Nelson that LIVE for Games for Windows would now be free (was this a subscription service?) - that in itself is not a big deal IMO - but the logical progression of the discussion certainly is.

Flip through yourself - and you'll see post after post asking when Xbox LIVE will be free. There's been some retarded fanboy defense in the process - but this post in particular seemed quite poignant -I hope they don't censor it and I hope that executives are paying attention.

The competition (well Sony at least) can now offer the same fuctionality as XBL with the bonus of no lag, dedicated servers and no fee.

We bought the console, the game but can only [play] half of it cos "the man" wants £40 of us to do so.......just for us to go through [their] system to connect to other users!!!!! I mean wheres the millions you make each year on this being spent?
