Well,

regardless of what anyone thinks (including me) - BluRay is here to stay.
Japan And South Korea-based Vendors Cut Prices For Entry-level Blu-ray Players In US Market - Tom's Hardware

Sony and partners have reduced entry-level standalone player prices to less that the critical $300 U.S. mark.

Not only does this place BD accessibility at prices less than the PS3, it marks a point where it's precedessor, DVD, finally ramped up marketshare to overtake VHS as the dominant format for video.

Does this mean then that anyone who wants a BD player are just going to buy a standalone rather than a ps3? It just seems that anyone who wanted the 'ultimate hi-def expierence' just bought a ps3 because Sony sold it at a loss. Could it also slow ps3 sales?

i agree rabbit, but are there THAT man HDTVs around? if so blu ray could really take off, but if not i can't see many people forking out for a new tv just for blu ray

hd tvs are cheaper than ever right now. high def is definitely going nuts. i'm excited about bluray cause my goal is to create a better experience while watching a movie at home than the theater. Unfortunately atm my bluray collection is quite weak but that should change in the near future.

this has the possibility to really hurt PS3 sales. This has been a mainstay selling point for the PS3 that it was a relatively cheap player that did alot of extras.. if you can find a player for hundreds less then what is the point?

if ps3 keep getting games on par with mgs4 there will be no problem with sales

I love my bluray, it's amazing visual quality make it an easy choice over DVD if the choice is there; not all movies are available on bluray!

concidering their current track of "exclusives" and 360 hand-me-downs... id say that was a pretty damn big if.

2 yrs into console life and you have 1 "must have" game... that didnt even crack 1 million.. dude.. not sweet!

Why pay 1/3rd more for a movie that looks ten percent better? Sure the players are getting easier to digest but it still does not blow my socks off compared to regular dvd. With the 1080P upconvert players only being $40-100 here I don't see alot of people changing.

well, dvd's aren't coming down much in price either. you go to best buy, and they are anywhere between 16-20 bucks. usually 20 bucks. and stupid blu ray discs hang around 30, with crappy ones maybe being 26.
maybe the industry will eventually drop prices on them all around. look how long it took them to drop the price on the CD. they used to be about 20 bucks, then finally, they dropped to about 14. (you think with the earth hugging wrappers they are doing now they would be a bit less too.)

yeah, it would be hard for me to just shell out 35 bucks for decent movies on BD.

on another note, LBP is almost out! yay! im finally going to buy a ps3 game! my first one ever! and ive had the darn thing for 9 months!

although i agree with most ofyour post i don't believe the ps3's exclusives will be awful from here on out. MGS was an amazing game whether your a sony or microsoft fanboy it was in fact the best game i've played this year. however i'm sure that will change when fallout 3 comes out. doesn't every japanese citizen own a wii by default? i would have to believe that the wii sales are going to have to level out because i don't know if there are people left in the world who don't own one yet.. (well id on't but..) either way infamous, little big planet, killzone 2, god of war 3, MAG, Final Fantasy XIII Versus, these games are ps3 exclusives and they will compete every bit with the 360 exclusives. Microsoft will begin to win the console war and close in on the wii because of the lower price.

other than LBP and maybe GoW3, there isnt much interest for me on the PS3 front. Now that FF13 is multiplatform, ill wait and see if theres any discernable difference between the 2, to see if its worth getting away from my achievement whoring on the 360. sorry, but unless its exclusive, AAA+, or a buttload better than its 360 counterpart, its all 360 all the time.
Sony has messed up to the point where i just dont see them pulling out of third place.

infamous is not multiplatform. its a ps3 exclusive. the point i'm trying to make is that 360 will outsell the ps3 no matter what. There are plenty of GREAT exclusives coming out for both systems... the games coming out on both consoles will no longer be ****ty ports on the ps3. The ps3 does not suck, has the production and quality of games besides a few sucked up until now... yes... To me my ps3 gets so much use as a entertainment center that was well worth 400 dollars considering you cannot get a bluray player for much cheaper. Not only does it play all my blurays, it has great upscaling for regular dvds... i also keep a pretty hefty collection of video (tv shows and such) on my computer, through the ps3's built in wireless, i have opened a connection and stream those straight to my ps3. if i'm having a party... stream my music, i understand xbox can do some of this but having it all packaged is well worth the money to me. ANY decent exclusives that come out are just a bonus on this front. Xbox360 =199.99 (no bluray, no built in wireless, unproven reliability, better game production, better exclusives, better online...) ps3 = 399.99 (bluray, built in wireless, proven reliability, not the best exclusives, and up until now the ports have been bad). you decide i'll never dog either, couldn't live without either one.
