Developers Migrating from PS3 to Xbox 360 Development?

PS3Today.com and PS3Focus.com have reported a recent Japanese article about PS3 developer support, which has an insider source claiming that the initial investment for PS3 software development it at least ¥2 billion (U$S 17.6 million), and that figure does not include the actual development costs associated directly with the title.
This initial investment, according to this insider source, is "nothing but a nightmare for many Japanese software development companies."
The article also reveals that the prevailing rumor in Japanese game development circles is that many companies may end up developing for the Xbox 360, which will lower R&D costs since the system shares many similarities with Windows game development, allowing developers to release a single title on both platforms.
Could Sony’s ambitious plans for the PlayStation 3 scare small game developers away and push them to towards Xbox 360 development? Only time will tell…

All Nintendo needs to do now is try and launch about 2 or 3 months before PS3 and Sony will be in a lot of trouble in Japan especially if their price is in the $500 range. Nintendo can win the Asian market while MS gets North America, Europe and Australia.

Posts: 723 | Now, the Cell processor is great! But Sony is asking too much for development, and most company's don't want to put that kind of money down. MS is smart with keeping development as simple and cheap as passable. It's attractive to game developers and helps us gamers in the end.

Posts: 0 | Sony is aking 17 million dollars from companies, tihs doesnt include the development cost, even thought some companies can afford this, they rather go to ms where they wont have to spend that much money, it is good news for ms since more games will be available for xbox 360, but its kind of bad news for gamers becuase x360 wont have much competitons so prices will be high |

Posts: 609 | Its really quite bad for them, i read the articles and it said that it puts a lot of the smaller Japanes devs off, they need the Japanese developers because it beats ms currently by a lot in that market, if they lose support from there and ms gain it, then the 360 might come in second in Japan behind the revo (in my opinion, of course) |

Posts: 723 | Exactly, it's a turn off. As I said in another thread, I think the competition will be between MS and Nintendo. If Nintendo does a good/great job with games and use of the controller features, it can easily be a competitor. I just can't see Sony in this battle at all, way to expensive for things that aren't even needed.

Sony made a big mistake IMO. Everyone knows (including AMD, IBM, and Intel) that multiple core processors are the wave of the future.
Speaking of which, I would have loved to see a quad core AMD Opteron in the 360, but it's going to be great none the less.

Posts: 723 | Well, the Cell is great, but it's to hard to program for to properly utilize it. That's the biggest problem.
