Posts: 0 | Nintendo whats your take on it? No one really talks about Nintendo anymore. In the next Gen boards, so I made a thread just for disscussion on all Nintendo next gen. What do you think about Nintendo with Next Gen/current gen (DS, Rev, Micro)?

Posts: 299 | The Micro is a cash-in. They're milking the GBA. But it just shows how fickle some 'gamers' can be. A new shell, and its selling like hotcakes. Style really does make a difference.
The DS is finally starting to bloom with some hotly anticipated games. I was a little concerned at first with all the mini-game-esque games flowing out. But these days i'm a proud owner. Roll on Phoenix Wright!
The DS succeeded because it gave consumers the choice to play in two completely different ways: In the traditional way, and in the unique way. Through this, they have were able to broaden their scope, inticing non-gamers into the videogaming realm (touch screen, voice recognition, dual screen). Without isolating their existing userbase (d-pad, four standard frontface buttons)
I believe they are trying to emulate this with the Revolution. We've seen the remote-style. It effectively acts as a "mouse-like" control method, only in free space. Meaning it is both more accurate, and more manoveurable than any mouse available at present. Thats what the developers have been saying anyway. If I was to interpret this method, i'd say this was Nintendo's attempt at breaking the European and American markets. What games sold the most this generation? FPS, Sports titles and maybe the odd RPG here and there. Both continents have a huge market for those types of games and this controller fits perfectly. Of course, the developers will not use it properly in its first year or so of release. Just like they made 'fun' titles for the DS. However, after this I could easily see some unique conceptual ideas being created.
The main redeeming point of the controller itself is that there is also a traditional style of play, alongside an absolute ton of add-ons. Meaning, just like the DS, Nintendo are introducing new markets, whilst holding onto their already established fanbase. Developers really have the reigns. If they want to make, say a hack-and-slash. Now you're the one wielding the sword. This could either majorly pay off, or become a major backlash for the company.
Add to this free online access, a large catalogue of downloadable Retro games and graphics which are "on par" with the PS3 and Xbox 360 and I could easily see this console succeeding. |

Posts: 0 | Ok here i go:
1. DS: the perfect handleheld in my opinion, it is affordable, a big library of games, pictochat, wifi; i think its perfect for gamers, hardcore gamers, and casual gamers as well
2. Revolution: The controller is well design (although many people dont agree with me) the console its colorful, stylish, small and also affordable. You will be able to download great games from past generation, such as FF, super mario, zelda. A next generation of Mario, Zelda, and other classics will be available, and if the are good i would strongly reccomend buying it.
3. Micro: whats where they thinking about? The screen is way smaller than GBA or SP, and for 30 dollars more you can get a DS. So two thumbs down |

Posts: 525 | Micro isn't too bad once you sit down and play one, the screen is actually of better quality than the gba. I would still definitely reccomend the DS over it, what with it only being 30 bucks more.
As for the Revolution, it's easily the next-generation console I'm most excited about (closely followed by the 360, of course). The controller is the biggest thing to come along in gaming since the analog stick, IMO.

Not really into handheld gaming, so have not given the Micro or the DS much time or thought, although I will have to get a DS at some point to play whatever Zelda game they bring out.
Looking forward to the Rev more than any other console, think the new controller will be just what the gaming industry needs.
Can't beat Nintendo 1st party titles in my opinion. |

Posts: 722 | There's something about Nintendo and thier games that seperates them from everyone else.
I've been a Nintendo fan for a long time and can't wait to get hold of the Revolution. Appart from playing all the new first party titles on a next gen machine the two other areas that have me really excited are the library of older games available for download, and of course the biggest draw for me, on-line gaming (finally). Roll on the launch of the Revolution

Posts: 30 | So many consoles coming out
I've always had some form of Nintendo console, so most probably will get the revolution, but definitely not on release day, will probably wait a few months until a price drop. The Zelda games have always been fantastic |

Posts: 1,144 | While the Amiga 1200 brought me into the world of gaming, chances are I still wouldn't be playing games if I never got an N64 (my first Nintendo console, although my brother had a SNES). Nintendo make the greatest games around - period. It's the only reason I've brought their consoles thus far. The Rev looks fantastic. Not only will it have a killer exclusive line-up (the vast majority of exclusives will be, as always, Nintendo-published or made games) but it also has a great control concept. I can't wait to get my hands on the Revolution.

Posts: 712 | Nintendo Lover at heart, I bought a DS just because I love them so much. I'm anticipating some awesome games for the DS this holiday season, and the premiere of the Wi-Fi service certainly is exhilirating. In the long run it looks like the purchase will pay off.
The Revolution looks downright awesome, I can't wait to get my hands on that controller to test it out. As long as all of Nintendo's spectactular franchises are there, I'm buying it for sure!
Micro is a watse of time, it's basically just milking the GBA for all it's worth. But, if Nintendo gets more money (not from me of course) I'm happy.

Posts: 35 | Most people I know who don't take console gaming that seriously but own a current gen console own a Gamecube. With the prospect of being able to cherry pick from their back catalogue and the fact that everyone seems agreed that they will once again be the cheapest of the next gen consoles I can't see that changing.
The fact that they really know how to strip things down and make them simple enough for non gamers to get into while still offering enough depth for those more committed is the reason I hold them in such high regard.

Posts: 225 | Revolution- i am hyped for it just seems to be a good package, loving the downaloadable retro games idea finnaly i can get my hands on classic Mario Bros or all the N64 games I missed out on (that would be all of them). Micro- i will wait till i go hands on with one but i won't be buying one since i am strapped for cash DS- i love it but unfortunatly the game have come out too late for me i havent bought a new game since launch since there have been no decent realeases, sure there are some qualty games coming out noww but i can't afford them what with every peeny going into the 360, I got £65 credit trade in for it today *sobs* although it means Kameo was bought :-D

Posts: 235 | If u are gunna go handheld it just got to be nintendo and at the moment the DS hasnt disappointed - i just picked up advance wars Dual strike and its just amazing. I havent had any problems with it and with games like mario kart DS on the way its only gunna get better.
The rev looks interesting - i mean i like the new controller ideas but i get a bit bored of playing the same old games on nintendo consoles and u can be garanteed that we will see a new mario, zelda, metroid.... and even though i do enjoy some of these games (not metroid sorry IMO i prefer the platform versions) i wont something a bit more original and im hopeing that with the new controller we will see some more original titles popping up, like the touch screen did 4 the DS.
I cant say anything on the micro as since buying a DS i havent really seen the point in looking backwards. Plus if u only wanted to play advance games u might aswell get an SP as i found that one of the most comfortable and well designed handheld ever build and its bound to be cheaper than a Micro.

Posts: 0 | I forgot to post my take on this:
DS: Was slow when it first started, but it is now amazing with WiFi service, games. I wish I still had my DS. Nintendo has played its cards right with the DS.
Micro: Pointless small thing to play. Basically a SP in smaller form and changable faceplates. Another way to get money.
Rev: The best innovation so far. The controller makes me wonder what add-ons will Nintendo use. Metroid Prime 3 will make buy the Rev alone because i'm a Metroid fan first and foremost, then Zelda, and Mario. Once more details come in i'll say more, but for now the Rev has me intrerested. |

Posts: 542 | Here are my thoughts on nintendo. Purely my thoughts...my opinions...don't argue them.
+ is positive
= is nuetral
- is negative
Nintendo as a whole
+Inovative
+Creative
+Carring for the consumer
+Unbeleivable to play on the same feild as Sony and Microsoft.
+Produces some of the best games ever
+Willing to take a risk
+Determined
=Is a small company compared to Sony and Microsoft
-Their urge to be different has landed them in a whole more then once (n64, Gamecube, Virtual boy)
-Their ideas of DVDs, HDTV, and Online gaming are skewed
-Not enough third party suport
-Inovative games that are gimicky, or when playing you get the fealing that crap was just added in use a feture.
My thoughts on the gamecube
+Great first party titles
=Fair 3rd party suport
-Most Exsclusive 3rd party didn't stay exsclusive
-Small Disc and Disc size
Thoughts on the DS
+Two screens, a mic, and online. Clearly inovative
+Plays GBA games, nice bonus
+Long battery Life
=Bulky and ugly design
-Nothing amazing for the two screen use yet.
GBA line (GBA / Micro / SP)
The GBA was great, but dead screen (no light), and it used regular batteries.. The SP fixed everything, but the headphone jack. Then the Micro fixed the headphones, and added a faceplate, but killed the screen again, and made the system too cramped.

I agree with you for the most part.
However I don't really understand why you said: Quote:
-Their ideas of DVDs, HDTV, and Online gaming are skewed
-Not enough third party suport
| DVD's are being implemented into the Revolution. HDTV, you're right, should be used. But unfortunately right now there just isn't enough of a userbase. And Online gaming. Well, with the Revo, online gaming will be FREE. I don't really get you.
