Sony Launch

Here's an intriguing question that i haven't seen anyone ask.

Is sony going to try a worldwide release as well? If they don't, then how long after japan do you think we will be able to buy in the U.S. or in europe?

If any of you have any news on this, please post!

No. I highly doubt Sony for world launch. They still use old methods and rely on the past. First Japan, American then Euroupe (japan is always first for all Sony products).

if they don't do a worldwide release it would be 3-4 months for U.S and 6-7 for europe

I have not heard anything supporting a world wide launch from Sony- Msoft said they would, Nintendo has as well, but nothing from the Sony camp.

I am under the impression it will be `07 when PS3 makes it's debut in the US and Europe. The whole "Spring of `06" is just another lie- mark my words, a lie. Or I'll eat crow and be demoted.

I have read that the Sony is not attempting a worldwide launch. (i can't remember where, but i've read that in a couple differenet places) With the complex manufacturing involved in the PS3, I don't think Sony could pull of a worldwide launch even if they wanted to.

Well sony is making the most stupid decision in the history of the company, my goodness, they are going to lose with the PS3, for the only reason of bad managment

i heard somewhere back in the rumor mill that it will be released in japan first, so more than likiely we will not see it here in the us till 07, by that point sony fanboys will have either converted or be foaming at the mouth (or the rediculous ones will try to fly there for the release, lol)

I would guess that Japan will see it first in May 06, US will recieve Nov 06, Europe Q1 of 07.

well on gamer tv here in northern ireland the presenter was saying that they where informed unoffically that it would be release march 2006 but i would take that with a pinch of salt as dates changes from day to day

One of the guys at Gamestop ( I would not call them an expert) said his manager got info through the grapevine that Japan get PS3 in summer of 06 and US gets it in fall 06

That sounds reasonable. Japan is a test market to Sony because if they falll in Japan, they can pick themselves up again. USA is diffrenet. You fall you stay down unless if you do something amazing. Europe I don't know aout. I have't been there yet.

What about Nintendo? They are based here in America and in Japan. Will they do a world wide launch or just do the Japan first, America second, Europe last deal that they seem to like doing? I just thought it would be interesting to know.

Im not so sure about it being a test market though, if sony came out with toothpicks with SONY on them those japs would kill eatch other trying to get them. My point is that sony is god in japan, so you cannot use it as a model for how somthing would fare in another part of the world

Look, Sony is "God" in Japan. It is a "test" market per say. If it works in Japan the send it global. If it sucks in Japan it never leaves Japan. Get my point.

I dont really care when it launches. I dont think im gonna get it. Have you seen the steering wheel........ i mean controler. I bet if you threw it at the tv (because you got mad at a crappy game) it would come right back to you like a boomarang.

I'll agree with everybody on here. Sony couldn't do the world launch even if they wanted to. Their resources just aren't enough to do that and they don't have the money.

I'm gonna agree with Jackal who agreed with everyone (makes things easy). Japan is the guinea pig for Sony, if the PS3 fails there (hypothetically speaking), they can cut their losses and not lose as much face. Plus, if you have been following the reports, then you know that Sony is no longer "king" as they used to be with lawsuits and product sales falling behind.

I would think it better for Sony to not do a world wide launch effort just in case there is a problem that needs to be dealt with so the recall costs do not put them in a darker financial position than they are currently in.
