PS3 online: not official yet- but close.

While surfing the web like a California beach bum, I came across the following article about the potential PS3 online service to oust the XBLive! service. Feel free to give the article a quick read before making your opinions and assumptions.

Of course, I am very doubtful of a free service that compares to XBLive, but if Sony subsidizes the cost with advertizement... who knows (and that is my own assumption, not found in the article).

where did it say it was going to be free? there is no way that they could have any service comparable to XBL for free. i'm sure they will just try to rediculously over-do the service and charge $100 a year for it. kind of like what they are doing with the actual PS3

The ps3 has the advantage of still being in development after the 360 has been released and reviewed. Sad but true.

Some see it as an advantage but remember it is also a huge disadvantage to coming to the market last. If "Sony Online" looks, plays, or has any similar features to Xbox Live all the fanboys and media will scream SONY COPY STEALSING NAZI PIRATES!!! etc.

i dont think tha ps systems will ever go on line like xbox or for the 360

Theyll go onliine, but they will never match XBox live. Anyone know if the PS3 will have a dashboard, desktop or w/e? I think we will find the two consoles will be very similar in features. (mind you, ps3 has built in networking.)

I will belive it when I see it sony is known for over hyping things, I just ask show us with that said Xbox has a heck of a headstart on online service. Sony will have to put alot of effort and money to get their so called online service on an equal level as microsoft. But in order for sony to compete they are going to have to come out with a better online service then what they had with the PS2. Online play is going to be staple for all the next gen consoles including Nintendo so they need to jump onboard the online play trend.

Until I read something offical this is nothing but a scanned article. Sony has already come out and said that they will not have a unified online resource. Even if they do LIVE has a 3 year head start in research and development. I will beleive it when I see it.

sony as an entire company is pretty much in the tank, only making money in gaming. Do they have the resources to build a unified online service in the next year? I doubt it. Banwidht fees, backbone connections, servers, coders, just NO WAY!

Gentle-mods, I am in concurrence as well. Nevertheless, I found it newsworthy and therefore posted it as a cordial FYI.

I do think that Sony has to put more work into the online service. Everyone is becoming more "connected" and for gamers, it is essential to be able to kill other people rather than AI bots. Sony, with its huge fan base, could make a lot of money with a unified online service.
