Posts: 575   |  Nintendo's official new platform name! April 27, 2006 - Nintendo revealed this morning that the official name of its formerly codenamed Revolution system is Nintendo Wii. The Big N explained the decision behind the name in a statement, which we've provided below: Introducing... Wii. As in "we." While the code-name Revolution expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer. Wii will break down that wall that seperates videogame players from everybody else. Wii will put people more in touch with their games... and each other. But you're probably asking: What does the name mean? Wii sounds like "we," which emphasizes the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii. Wii has a distinctive "ii" spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people playing it. And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of videogames that sets it apart from the crowd. So that's Wii. But now Nintendo needs you. Because it's really not about you or me. It's about Wii. And together, Wii will change everything. So what do you guys think? At first I didnt like it, but now its pretty cool. Just like nintendo to go about and make it simple.

Posts: 902 | Sounds "kiddie" to me... and they wonder why each Big N console gets the "kiddie" stigma.  Oh well, the GC was a stupid name too, but the name doesn't change the fact that their consoles are always top notch!

Posts: 525 | Revolution was much better. Wii...I dunno, I guess it's fine, but has no relevance to the console at all. I'm neutral I guess. And yes, it sounds like "wee". Might we all realize that and move on? Anyways, Nintendo could have done much (MUCH) better with the name, but it's not like aiming Samus's blaster at metroids or decapitating someone with a lightsaber in 3D physical space will no longer be fun because the name "Wii" is imprinted on the console.

Posts: 51 | I remember when "Dreamcast" was a dumb name. Its still historically a good console - but you cant sound cool saying you have a Nintendo Wii. btw nice sig dizz. ;p
