Default "Never Underestimate Nintendo"

Peter Molyneux of Lionhead Studios (Black and White, Fable, The Movies) had this to say of the Nintendo Revolution's controller:

"There is a line at the end of the book 'Game Over' and it is: 'Never underestimate Nintendo'. That is all I can say about the controller."

Read it here.

I think the Revolution is looking better and better every day. It should be at least $100 less than the 360's core package.

My next gen choices are most likely the Revolution and the 360.

Could be. I don't think it would be hard to make the greatest controller in the history of controllers anyway.

Look nintendo is the hit maker for original titles, but thats why they are just to comfortable. As far as the controller nintendo has had so many gimicks its just sad now. If you own a psp and then play your ds you now what a gimick is. I just hope they concentrate on not just the controller but the system

power pad
power glove
super scope
virtual boy
gyromite
dual screen ds
on and on and on and on and on and on

K, Nintendo I'm sorry but i've never seen a company bomb as much as you have! they have NES and people love it, SNES again amazing, then N64 and it loses to the PS, a newcomer's first try, and then the Gamecube which loses again to a newcomer the Xbox, I mean they don't think they need DVD players, online, or anything like that and yet there are very few good games on it. Now with the Revolution, Gamecube's got basically one more good game, The Legend of Zelda , then it's a long wait till 06 or 07 for Nintendo fanboys for the next system. And that whole controller thing of course it's gonna be cool, got's gotta be able to play like every old controller they've ever come out with, but you a system not that great when their big hype is over a controller.... a controller! They are for controlling games, but if the games suck, there's not much to do. I'm sorry but if i really wanna play NES games just bring out the system or buy a new one for like 10 cents or i could wait for a vew more years and dish out like 400 bucks for a new system to play my old games. It just doesn't make sense to me!

This was on another thread but I thought you might wanna read it here

Its interesting to read that people feel the Nintendo systems have been gimicky, becuase without Nintendo there would be no rumble pak feature, no more than 2 controller ports and no analog stick (to name a few). I think its more like innovation, and yes, some of it has failed, but at least they were willing to give it a try. And personally I dont want my games machine to be a dvd player, I have a dvd player for that...

I have to agree it is going to be a long wait for the Revolution, and thats why the 360 interests me so much, but I would "never underestimate Nintendo" as the title of this thread suggests.

i no they have lots of innovation and they started home videogames but what i mean is that it's amazing to me that a company with such a strong foothold on the market can screw it up so badly. I never said i didn't appreciate Nintendo and I don't think they're gimicky but you have to admit they have screwed things up, I mean i think of it as more arrogant than confident that they thought they didn't need online, that they didn' need a HDD, that they didn't need 3rd party support. And to rely a system on the fact that it can play old games....it just doesn't work. Nintendo, I thank you for starting it but, you seem to have a skill at losing the market.

how did Nintendo " screw up "...they lost to a newcomer...so what...who says the 360 won't lose to Revolution...besides GBA is the best selling system EVER...compared to anything else...i bet they will release the Revolution and it will blow the competition away, and cost less than any other system

The Revolution is going to sell very well this gen. Do you want to know why?

Price. It's all about the price.

The Xbox 360 is going to be $400 (screw the core package), and the PS3's price point is anywhere from $299 to $699. What's the Revolution price prediction?

$200.

Plus, it's going to have 5 times the game library of 360 + PS3 combined.

I will buy 360 for my shooters, sports and RPGs and Revo for all my Nintendo stuff.

The Gamecube was the cheapest this generation. Look how well it fared.

Yes, the Rev has FAR more going for it than the 'cube did, but price doesn't guarantee sales.

In all fairness, yes, the GC did fail despite it's low price.

But it also had a fraction of the games that will be available on the Revo.

Also, last gen, consoles were only $299. With the 360 launching at $299 and $399 and the PS3 launching for maybe double that, $200 is going to be an attractive price to the average gamer.

I think if Nintendo had been able to launch the Revolution first they would've competed and perhaps even beaten the PS3 and 360.

But since it's coming out long after the 360's first price drop and perhaps after the PS3's first price drop too, it's price will not be as big of an advantage.

Just my two cents. (I kind of flip-flopped around. sorry.)
