i definitely have my money on hd-dvd being the surviving high def media. microsoft has WAY more strength than sony does, and they did the best possible thing. they are putting out a separate unit that integrates with the core. genius. sony is forcing all of their customers to invest in blu-ray. what if it fails?

Pretty stupid in my opinion.
1.Add on cost more money
2. It wont be used for gaming, but watching movies.

What if Blu Ray fails? Devs will still use it for gaming.

divx is not a format, Divx is a compression technology. Also a codec

@Enola Bomber, you should stop downloading movies. Go work and buy the DVD. The industry is declining because of people like you, that enjoy watching a movie but it is not willing to pay for it.

durable and even if you scratch it you can use the standard DVD polishing devices to fix it.

Blu Ray uses a very strong coating protection, it is very (VERY) hard to strach a BR disc.

Jeet, you having been paying attention to the facts as of late my friend. Sony is depending on the PS3s success BECAUSE they arent making mony from their electroinics and movies.

Sony, as well as MS, is losing money investing in the PS3. They only reason they still on the market is because they make mad movie with their TVs (I used to work at Best Buy, and people go crazy for Sony products) MP3 players, DVD players, etc. They are also making a lot of movie with PS2 sales, which at this point, every PS2 gives sony a 50-60 dollars profit. Oh wait, I also forgot about Sony Pictures (movies coming soon: Casino Royale, Ghost Rider, SPIDERMAN 3,) and movies alredy in theaters like The Da Vinci Code, Monster House, and Silent Hill.

I DONT! I think blu ray is going to come out top. Your probably saying that because its an add on for a 360, and that you dont like sony. I was at Costco a couple of days ago and I saw at least 3 people buying a blu ray player. There was a crowd around them. Hell even I own a blu ray player. It plays much smoother then any dvd player and I have 1080p t.v and it looks amazing. Plus beleive it or not but blu ray movies are very cheap.

And how the hell do you know how much strength Microsoft has over Sony. So the richest man in the world owns the company and you assume it has more power? Sony was a billion dollar company even before Playstation came out.

Having the HD-DVD come second isnt genius but it isnt dumb.

You couldnt be more wrong. If you buy a BR movie, it can play on any BR device, not just the PS3. BR is a format that will be put into many devices, not just the PS3.

Sony is not the mastermind behind BR, they are just a heavy supporter of the format.

It doesnt matter what strength (if any) MS has in the hardware world, Toshiba are the ones marketing HD-DVD, not MS. MS is simply a supporter of the format.

When it comes to formats, Sony has the power because they are not a software company - Sony is hardware. MS doesnt do hardware, therefore they are new to that type of industry.
